I've just taken a couple of internet IQ tests and all my scores were low  :cry:The thing is in most cases the time ran out before I could complete the test because I was thinking so much. If thats the case then why is it that I was able to do well in science and biology in high school( Top science/ biology students from grades 8-11) does a low IQ make u less of an Aspie/ autistic? Are autistics supposed to have high IQ's? WHAT THE HECK AM I THEN :?

It's probably not a good idea to trust internet IQ tests they aren't very accurate. I seem to get a different score each time I take one. It's usually kind of high, but I think in reality my IQ is lower.

IQ has nothing to do with a diagnosis of AS or any ASD - except for the fact that one cannot be diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome if mentally ret*d (some clinicians believe it is possible to be a mentally retarted Aspie - it's just that you'd get two diagnosis - believe it or not!).

I have one official IQ test that I took in HS, administered by a psychologist. I've also taken a couple of other aptitude type tests - the ASVAB and the SAT (back in the 80s), and all three scores agree (when normalizing their scores), so I have a pretty good idea about what my IQ actually is when professionally tested.

I've yet to attain a similar score on any of the internet IQ tests. I might just be a lot dumber than I was in HS (three kids'll surpress anyones IQ) and the self-test format means that I probably didn't geat up and try quite as hard, but the inconsistency of the scores (a range of 30 points) makes me think that most of the tests aren't that good. I also know people who scored much higher on the internet tests than they did on "official" aptitude tests, so it's hit or miss. I wouldn't let it bother you.

It's a pretty meaningless measure, actually. I've known people with "average" IQs who are, actually, much brighter and higher acheiving and have contributed more to society than I have and I've known one very "high IQ" person who still lives with his parents in his mid-30s (not that there's anything wrong with that) and hasn't done a damn thing for anybody with his "superior" intellect, so the ability to score well on IQ tests is a pretty meaningless skill, in isolation. Don't give much thought to it - it doesn't really matter and certainly doesn't define your intelligence or your value as a person or potential.

It is the nature of the beast. Tests test test taking ability.

First eat a candy bar, wait ten minutes, go through the test answering all questions where the answer pops up. then from the top, spend a bit more time on the unanswered. give each 30 or 60 seconds, some will get answered. Then it is back to the top, data has been inputed, time has passed while your active mind considered other problems, the third reading brings depth.

By now the unanswered are few, and the rest of the alloted time can be spread over them. do not get stuck on one, spread your time, some more answers will appear. At the end give the unanswered the most likely answer.

Clearing the obvious will focus your mind on the harder, reading then passing on gives time to digest, and most multiable choice have two not possible answers, and two possible, so a guess is 50-50.

As for WHAT THE HECK AM I? I chose D, All of the above.

Whats low, 60, 80, 100? I think having a low IQ more so guarantees your a little autistic.

I don't know of any evidence that says IQ is directly related to autism.

I think most IQ tests are pretty useless really, especially when you discover the incongruencies between them. I went through a phase of being obsessed with taking all the online ones, and the ones in a Hans Eysenck book of IQ tests, as well as the MENSA test. I was also tested at 9. At 9, I was in the 140s, according to MENSA, 155, according to the Eysenck book, between 140 and 180, and the online tests went as low as 125 and as high as 160. Needless to say, I generally avoid them like a plague now, unless I stumble across one that looks particularly different or interesting... also, I think you can learn to cheat on IQ tests...the more you do, the more familiar you become with the style of question and how to solve it.

I'd almost be tempted to go the other way with it -- a very disproportionate percentage of the people I've known with IQs over 140 had some easily noticed AS traits. In some cases, they felt that their score mostly indicated that they were really good at taking tests. I'm sure that many people with AS also have the opposite happen -- they may have a real knack for doing badly on certain types of tests. I wouldn't read too much into it, they are tests designed for NTs, and aren't even particularly good at evaluating them (Where's the "creativity" section, for example?).

The first IQ test I took was when I was in high school and it was in the 130s. Since then I have taken tests and they have declined. The last test I think it was "low average."

Me neither. I always score in the top percentage on most standardized tests (but not on GRE Math - at least for my subject - I got a question wrong, just one mind you, enough to put me into the 75th percentile:)). Anyhow, I took one IQ test in middle school, and it took a couple of days - but they never had me complete it. I think it had something to do with my bringing up questions that I had seen before, answered correctly, but argued that the test was wrong in it's assumptions. I guess the shrink just got fed up with me.

Actually, Autism and IQ aren't really related, but HFA requires the IQ to be over a certain level(which is OVER MR level), and AS requires no meaningful mental impairment besides social, so the floor is even higher.

So how could you be MR and NOT MR? That Doctor should be sent back to kindergarten!

Anyway, timed tests are BOUND to make you do worse. If you can do it in a reasonable time first try on your own, that should be enough. I think most IQ tests work that way. I know I HAVE had timed IQ tests, but it was an overall time and I don't think it was that bad.
