I find most NT conversation irrelevant or stupid

It gets me down often,
NTs talking about money, politics, this/that, the latest pop star, football, and the list of stupid topics never ends.

I often don't understand how they can blab for hours about these things.

And of course I get a negative reactions when I show no interest in the topic of the group.

What most NTs talk about is truly frivolous and drama-creating, for the most part.
Yes, I know many NDs here talk about frivolous stuff like unicorns, manga, their favorite toilette paper, vacuum cleaner barcodes (talk about a stereotype, I don't think most ASDs have to have such narrow interests as that, and many don't) , and what not, but at least it's a true interest and it's fun.

When NTs talk about something I can see they have no real interest in the subject/topic.
And that they're real interest, or goal, is to gain social interest or social status.
It's a machiavelian attempt (through a third party, the conversation topic) to "get in" with people,
get popular, "be somebody", and all that garbage.

I feel like I'm selling my soul if I pretend like most NTs do to pretend to have an interest in something.
Something that for me truly is uninteresting.

So I run like the plague, usually, from most conversations in public.
Which of course makes me unpopular. And I'm in the "out-group", once again.

If you have ASD, do you enjoy NT-type conversations ?
There might be some of you guys out there who do.
How many of you can "hang" in a "normal" (NT) conversation ?

What do you like / prefer talking about?

I can relate to pretty much everything you said (except it doesn't get me down; I'm too wrapped up in my obsessions to think about NTs and their behavior patterns).

I'm obsessed with certain aspects of epidemiology. I'm mostly obsessed with how people jump to conclusions and believe something to be true just because a recent scientific study unveiled a weak correlation.
I think it annoys people when I talk about it, so I tend to avoid conversations in general

Also, I can talk about stop-motion animation to no end.

My patience for political discussion is limited, and I agree with you that football and the latest pop star are stupid topics. It makes my head hurt.

Sometimes I watch popstar videos online because I'm like a deer in the headlights when I do.
I'm mesmerized and struck motionless by the brilliant rays of stupidity hitting my face and eyes.

Most NTs don't have any real brains therefore they fall into the trap of superficialisms.
Now for a clip of George Carlin on the intentional dumbing down of Americans...

I worked as an interpreter for many years - the meat-in-the-sandwich between senseless and irrelevant conversations. It was really tempting at times to condense a lengthy, boring narrative down to a few words - but of course I couldn't. There was a code of ethics involved.

It's called small talk. Bane of my existence.

Even now I'm a couple hours away from going to a meetup with people from an online game I love...and I know that just like in the last meetup, they won't talk about the game itself more than for the first 5 minutes ... and for the next 4 hours it will be nonstop small talk. I'm seriously considering just staying there for an hour at best, trying out a few craft beers the place offers and sip them silently while hoping the alcohol dulls the agony of the bovine small talk.

I find aspie and NT conversations about equally boring. There is about a one in fifteen chance that I will find a given topic interesting (this may vary slightly depending on the interests of the people involved).

Well, my only experience of having conversations with aspies is on this forum, so maybe I shouldn't judge just based on that. But whatever.

No, generally not. I can usually tolerate them to a point.
There are some conversations that are just way to shallow or self-serving for me to hang in, and so I avoid them.

Also, I had to stop watching television several years ago.
I could feel it draining the intelligence from me. It basically tells your brain to shut down and does the "thinking" for you. I felt like a mindless zombie after having watched TV.

I don't think I have ever been bored, but very superficial conversations can make me feel nauseous.
These types of conversations seem meaningless on the surface, but they're not. I find the intention of psychological manipulation to be repulsive.

I suppose lots of conversations could be boring. Life could be boring to all who don't have many responsibilities. How to survive is interesting. Taking care of kids, watching them grow.

How about baseball sabermetrics---common interest among US Aspies.

You have to create your own "interesting" when you are bored.

There so much out there that's interesting. Just do research if you're bored. Share the results with others.

Thinking yourself "above it all" is boring as s**t.

Yeah, I don't listen to "popular" music or tv, it all sounds to me like...

I like documentaries, classical music, stuff NT's would probably find boring
