I believe I have a fairly good sense of humor...it seems to run in my family, however on occasion, I'll say something that throws people into hysterical fits of laughter, when I didn't intend what I said to be funny. I've yet to ever take offense at this, and I'm usually happy to have warmed their day, however, when this happens, I frequently find that I'm puzzled over what's so funny, and I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.
In one instance, my friend and I decided to take a trip to a tourist town a few hours away. The hotel we found charged an additional fee for every extra person who would be staying in the room, and for one reason or another, he didn't want to pay that fee. When we arrived in the town, we found it fairly desolate of tourists, and so I straggled behind him into the empty hotel lobby so they wouldn't think we were together and charge him an additional fee.
One of the ladies...an older lady in her 60's complete with hair bun and reading glasses, noticed me and said "Are you with him?"
Being rather terrible at lying, I replied "I just walked in with him."
Apparently this was the funniest thing she heard in years, and she was so busy laughing she didn't bother to charge the additional fee even though my friend eventually said "Yeah, she's with me."
I reason that she found it funny because it might follow along the same line as the "Take my wife, please!" type jokes but I'm still not entirely sure where the focal point of the humor is.
I too have a good sense of humour. I also get laughed at for things I don't find funny. I can't actually think of any examples... sorry a bit useless there... but yeah it's definitely happened.
Unfortunately my Tourettes' comments usually attract quite a lot of laughs...

That story is funny because you're trying to get away with something but you're caught and forced to admit what you were doing by a stereotypical bossy old woman.
I can't really explain why those things are funny in a story, but they are.

Ha! I actually find your story funny. I hope you don't mind.
That happens to me sometimes.
When I was close to finishing my mech engineering degree,
I told my dad, "I don't think I'll pursue grad school."
He started laughing. I didn't think it was funny at all.
I think I could survive grad school if I wanted to.
When I returned to the robotics club room one day and said, "Hey, I got the parts from Miner's.",
a club member said, "You were wearing that? [pause] People must have thought you work there."
I didn't connect the ideas because of the pause, so I said timidly, "But I don't work there."
He laughed and he said, "I know."

I find most of my humor comes with my dry delivery and the first thoughts that come out of my head in reaction, never pre planned. All I have to do is filter out what might be rude if I can. I've found many times people laugh at things I say simply due to my delivery and presence, it's not always me being funny, but it's the unexpected line from the low key state I'm in.
If people don't expect what you say to come out of you, they sometimes find it quite funny.

All comedy is based on truth, and funny doesn't happen without a sense of unexpected. Combine that with the audacity to say what you mean and a lack of understanding of social situations, and people will laugh at things, even when you don't mean them to be funny. Asperger's is a gift when it comes to being funny.

Yeah that's pretty much how it works with me.

Yeah. That's me. I discovered somewhere along the line that literal interpretations of things can be funny, and since the first thought in my mind is often literal, I can say that, and as long as I follow it up with something that indicates that I understand the expected meaning, I can get a laugh.

I usually do the whole one liner bit. Never pre-planned. It just happens...and thats what makes it funny. For instance...and I know this is REALLY cruel...but one time at work this guy in our department died out in his car before it was time to clock in. Someone said "I can't believe he died in the parking lot" so I said "I guess he really didn't want to work today" *shrugs* I know, I'm going to hell for that one.
Unfortunately my friends think I'm funniest when I'm angry. Especially while driving.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I would like to request that Simonono, who posted in this thread, please change your crawling bug avatar. I almost smashed my monitor when I saw it, as I briefly thought it was a real bug.
As for humor, yes, I occasionally cause unintentional mirth in others by something I say or do. Smashing my monitor to kill a fake crawling bug would not have been funny. I have swatted fake knot holes in the fake pine paneling covering most walls in my home, thinking they were bugs. The fake knot holes are still there. The paneling is too dark, but the place is old, and taking the paneling off would probably reveal nasty issues underneath, so I am thinking of getting some nice, light colored self stick contact paper to stick on at least some of it.
