Hi there fellow aspies and others on the spectrum!

Sooo, I was hoping that someone reading this might have found a way to become more easy going. I have the feeling I'm a bit too stern with my daughter. She's 7 and doesn't like to listen and do what she's told and frequently gets into pretty foul, disagreeable moods which triggers me getting into a stern, authoritative mode.

I know it sounds pathetic but when I get feeling the way I do now, I start thinking how she's a little kid and frightened, not knowing the rules quite yet and all the confusion that comes with growing up.

I just want to be less scary and much more easy going and laid back.

You know you're scaring her, but this isn't enough to make you find a way to be more easy going? Maybe you need counseling or therapy, not advice on a forum.

I am. Just not sure how she is on matters of ASDs.

To reiterate; hoping someone has learned tricks to being more laid back.

And to be clear, I don't hit her or am in any way abusive. Just sometimes when I hear a little kid being scared or afraid on TV or the movies or seeing a kid being treated in what, to the subjective observer would be considered mean and unjust, makes me want to turn and hug my kid.

Every time I lose my cool and get all grouchy, when I calm down, I always state "never again" like some recovering alcoholic who slipped and went out on a bender, waking up in the morning with a hangover. I need to do better. I want to do better.
