I was reading the discussion below
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt79822.html

Here is something interesting, most of the cute female Anime characters seem to be Aspies to me. Their traits seem to be similar to those described in that discussion. How they trip and may be clumsy, get distracted with shiny things, pay too much attention to certain details and get confused over other ones, may say silly things, sometimes get disconnected from reality, do things at their own pace, and so on...

Does anyone agree? Or has this subject already been covered on the forum before? :( :(
I can think of a few Anime characters like that off the top of my head :P

It is a character archetype. "The nerdy cute one". A pretty two dimensional one at that. I can go on, but there is deeper reasoning behind this.

Honestly, if you wanted people who probably have AS in anime, you may want to look towards Welcome to the NHK. Depressing, and alot of anime fans complain "it is to realistic". I thought it was really good though.

Lol there's no way Osaka doesn't have autism. She's incredibly quirky, she says things that don't make sense and confuse people, she's quiet.

Sakaki also seems like she has autism. She's really quiet and shy, doesn't usually show emotion, her expression and tone are usually flat, she's obsessed with cats, she doesn't seem to pick up on the very obvious cues that Kaorin has a crush on her, she's always completely straight forward with everything she says, and she generally seems to feel awkward. And there was that one time when Chiyo was joking saying that Sakaki took her height away, but Sakaki didn't realize Chiyo was joking, even though she was clearly smiling.

Wow...I've probably put way too much thought into this. Azumanga Daioh is my favorite anime.

When I recently started watching Azumanga Daioh, I always thought Osaka was more schizotypal than autistic, but with the mess that psychiatric nosology is, who knows what the truth is? Either way, she seems to get on alright.

I've read that there are even trans people on that show. 8O It might be worth checking out. Thanks. :)

apart from that, i dont think there are any other manga/anime/game (that i know of) that accurately depicts autism. adhd, yes, but nope, not autism. havent seen a character with impairing sensory issues.

The most "Asperger-like" anime characters I can think about are L and Near from Death Note.

I find Near to be more high-functioning, but L is definitely an Aspie. It's like this:

But then again, we may be weirdos thinking about this too much. 8O
