I read somewhere that autistic children usually don't have separation anxiety when they are away from their parent.
I didn't either which at the time caused my mom to think I was unaffectionate. but it doesn't mean that I didn't feel anythings I just didn't know that I was suppose to show a reaction as mostly I only communicated when I had a need or I wanted something or had a question. was anyone else like that or was it just me?

I think my mom had more seperation anxiety about me than I did about her. It sure is the case now.

Mom said I was the only child that did not cling to her mother when dropped off at kindergarten...but I remember being worried of my parent's death when I was about 7 years old..

i was mainly just terrified because I had such a nightmarish time at school. My first grade teacher was verbally and physically abusive towards me and kinda had me singled out from the rest of the class...so it seemed...so i would panic when dropped off..because it was a daily trauma type thing.

I can recall once as a small child screaming non-stop for hours because my babysitter was a man who I didn't know...

I can handle being alone perfectly fine (I've been left home alone since I was eight, seven sometimes) but I'd much rather be in the company of others. I hate being lonely.

Our daughter has daily meltdowns associated with dropping her off for preschool, which we are actually reading as a positive sign, and perhaps a result of her increased awareness that we've been witnessing with her being on the GFCF diet. Before about two weeks ago she NEVER got upset though. It's been kind of a trade off so far, with more awareness comes more meltdowns. Hard to say which is better for her, although I'd probably bet dollars to donuts she prefers being more engaged.

I hardly ever had any sign of seperation anxiety. My mom would drop me off at grandma's 6 hrs away for weeks at a time as early as 3 yrs old because I enjoyed it. I missed my mom at times but I understood she'd be back and there was no reason to get upset.
