Actually most econimies are based on having a certain percentage of the population not working. If the population of unemploied falls to low then the wages are raised so high that small businesses can not compete for workers.
I have worked most of my life but there have been a few times that I couldnt(I live in USA,not so easy getting welfare here).Sometimes it was depression...no,I couldnt get out of bed but my legs werent broken. Many people are willing to work but no one is willing to hire them, lack of experience not lack of ability.I also drank and had to have time off to get sober...I couldnt do that and work, sounds weird but it was a full time job getting sober.
Yeah, there are some lazy sods in the world but more unemployed who want to work but dont want to be paid slave wages or in an abusive work environment...is that to much to ask...a little human dignity with your pay check.I wont even get into some of the challenges peole with AS have in getting employment...that is a book in itself.

as i am a nurse i do understand how difficult it is to get sober
i also suffer from depression and have a number of learning difficulties as well as A S, but i stil believe that even if its wrkig for an sillly amount ( i work for 80p an hour ) thats a dollar i think we all should do it
i dont see why people should choose to be on benefits that we are paying and not get a job
as for an abusive work environment try working alongside colleuges who believe you have no right to be there and let you work 15 hour shifts with a 45min break or 7 and a half with a twenty minute break
where the patients you care for attck you and spit at you

WAIT A SECOND! You are getting 80pence an hour as a NURSE???? Apparently the lowest paid nurses here make over $16/hour! That is over 8Pounds which is over 800pence! Why are you accepting such a meager wage? HERE that means 2 hours work to buy a soda in a vending machine! HERE, only SOME jobs, such as waiters, are allowed to pay anything close to that, and even THEY generally pay 3 times as much or MORE!

i know its stupid its because im a studnet nurse so i work 40 hours a week but i am not entitled to minimum wage as i am not classed as working because i am a student nurse but then i am not allowed a student loan because i am being paid
here 80p is not enough to get me on the bus down to where i work ironically and i cant walk as its renowned for being dangerous and where somone was shot a fortnight ago
i know its very different over there
thats why im going to move as soon as im qualified
and nurses are awful when it comes to as ive been told loads of times it doesnt exist

In the States, we see generations on welfare and governmental assistance. When you see your mother and your grandmother living off the government and not having to work, why should you? Another issue is that those on assistance are single parents and probably not receiving child support. Even if they tried to stop using public assistance, what kind of job can they get...one that pays minimum wage? Once you have a job, the public assistance is immediately cut off (except for a few programs). Now you're not making enough to make ends meet. You were making more on welfare. If you already have a kid or two or three, who is going to care for them or pay for daycare?
You see, there just isn't any real insentive for them to get off of welfare.

how about the insentive to contribute to society and help make the world a better place?
when i am qualified i too will earn more on state benefits than if i was to just nurse but i can make a difference so why shouldent i
and why should may hard earned money be spent on those who cant be bothered to work?

This is an interesting discussion (if, albeit a depressing one) even if i'm not really qualified to reply.
why are you not qualified ?
you either recieve benefits or pay for them!

You, my dear, have a strong work ethic and that is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that do not have your desire to contribute to society. They feel, instead, that society owes them something...everything. Of course, you must not apply this theory to everyone receiving assistance for there really are people in need of help.
Keep up the hard work!

Then why are they paying you? It sounds almost like lose/lose! YOU could lose because the pay ends up costing you more. THEY could lose because their paying you costs more, as they can get more from you later in WORK.
BTW MOST nurses, at least in the US, apparantly are IDIOTS! It turns out a lot of them don't even have much training. They are arrogant and careless to boot. I once tried explaining to someone how a "cardiac" diet was CONTRAINDICATED for me because it was heavy in Vitamin K, and I took coumadin, and I did NOT have a problem with my heart so there was no reason for it. They saw heart, and just GUESSED! You know how AS is like 1/95 boys? Well, my heart condition is supposed to be 1 for every 5000 myocardial infarctions(which is what they assumed, and INSISTED applied to me, even though **I** know better, etc...). So I can see them not knowing much about AS, etc... HECK, they even INSISTED drugs would work when I said WELL, they haven't worked EVER before, why would they NOW?

Hello,
I spent years and years in the Hospitality Industry (chef, bartender, barback, bouncer, doorperson, etc...) completely miserable most of the time. I knew I was intelligent enough to be in management, but I was missing that all important ingredient; social skills.
I decided at 30 that I needed a change, I was living by the skin of my teeth. Working full time for DECADES but did not have two nickels to rub together that sucks.
Went back to school, got into Water treatment. Long hours, decent pay, able to work alone . I do not have to rely on anyone else
do not have to worry about the fatigue that comes with working with a bunch of people
Yes, there is a job for everyone, as long as you have the fortitude to strive for what you want.

Well, yeah, I think there are jobs available for everyone, even if means making our own jobs. I think there is a false sense of entitlement to having a job. No one is entitled to have a job. People can earn jobs, trade for jobs, convince people that a service they offer is worth purchasing. But there is no entitlement for people to have a job.
