I have a friend with autism. Is it possible for someone to be moderate functioning in most of autism, but have a skill with speech when talking about special interests? She struggles with autism in most respects but she is very articulate when discussing her favourite topics. She wants to do lecturing as a profession in the future but she is worried her moderate autism will hold her back.

Can an autistic present like that? She is great at explaining her favourite topics but she cannot socialise at all and needs daily support. She cannot walk on her own as she gets overwhelmed with senses and she has challenging behaviour issues like mine.

Do you have any advice for her?

That makes perfect sense and is very common. If you know a lot about a subject, you will sound more eloquent talking about it because you won't have to think as much about it as you've probably already talked about it a lot.

Most autistics are not "mild", "moderate" or "severe" on a consistent basis. It is not uncommon for us to be "mild" or even "higher" then "typical" on a activity or trait that is considered "high functioning" and be poorly able or unable to do "low functioning" things. Also severity can vary from day to day. IMHO this is a reason for frustration and claims of "you are not autistic" or "autism is not real". Back in the day we were often told "How come if you are so smart, you are so dumb?"
