please help me out on this, I'd really like to know.
I don't have money for a doctor right now,
so we'll have to do our best using circumstantial evidence.
there are a lot of facts about me that make me suspect that I may be on the spectrum somewhere, either Aspergers, PDD, or some type of schizoid condition ( which I am not too fond of, but I need to consider everything).

please let me know your opinion.

leaves are some solid facts about me that I know I have:

1. I rock and hum all the time when I am alone, and sometimes in public when I am very anxious. happens a lot what I am in big groups. I also tap my fingers on objects constantly, hum in public for comfort, and whistle a lot which makes me feel comfortable.

2. I have a long list of allergies, which was confirmed by an allergist doctor when I was 9 years old. it includes grass, pollen, trees, dust, cockroaches, and other
insects. 5 years ago I developed food allergies and I was at allegies to antibiotics.
Garlic, onions, and an entire class of antibiotics known as sulfas.

3. I get extremely heart palpitations when in confrontations.

4. I get upset and paranoid in social situations I cannot understand or cannot control. this is a huge problem for me. my 3rd grade teacher wrote on my report card that I would get upset and or cry when I didn't understand what was going on around me socially.

5. I have a variety of special interests. including maths, linguistics, etymology, music, learning songs on the guitar and violin, and a handful more. I find the subjects outside these areas quite boring. like history class which I always failed.
I just cannot for the life of me stay interested in subjects I have no interest in.

4. I've had sleep paralysis ever since I was 10 years old.
and it is often quite frightening and upsetting to me.
I recently had a sleep paralysis episode a couple of months ago.

5. I have frequent insomnia. which makes me irritable all the time.

6. my executive functioning is very poor. I often cannot get up the energy, or interest to accomplish things during the day. I am consistently late for an appointment I may have. this is a big issue for me, and it makes me feel really really bad.

7. I often have no filter when I speak to people in public.
often, I say the first thing that comes to my mind, especially when I meet people in public.

8. low energy, lethargy. this is a killer for me.
people see that I am tired all the time and they tend not to like me.

9. I have constant chronic depression, and I have had periods of very deep depression. during periods of deep depression I sleep 10 to 12 hours a day.
which of course makes me even more depressed.

10. loud noises upset me, and when they happen I often snap at people.
I punched my brother in the stomach for cheering at a football ga
me once. Because he was making too much noise and he hurt me by yelling at the tv.

11. I have a desperate need to be completely alone for long periods of time.
or else I have a meltdown, I break down emotionally. but I usually do not make a scene in public, I simply shut down in public and cannot interact with people.

so what do you think ?
is this Aspergers, schizoid, or pdd ?
I am at a loss at this point, any help would be appreciated.

"Schizoid conditions" are not generally considered to be on the spectrum, assuming you mean the autism spectrum.

If you really want to know if you are on the spectrum, I think the best you can do is to confer with people who know you (as a child, if you can), and compare their perceptions and your self perceptions to the diagnostic criteria, as well as the diagnostic criteria for schizoid PD (to rule it out). Further, you could compare that personal information to the descriptions in professional literature about autism.

The key component is knowing how you truly are most of the time and why; that is the information we are lacking (your post notwithstanding) and to which only you and your associates have access.

Maybe. Most of those things don't apply to ASD.

It could just be anxiety and ADHD though.

Starkid,

that's was very cold, pedantic, aloof, and not very helpful.
you almost sound like the last the doctor I visited,
who was a cold and calculating type, not in touch with the real world.
I've been around intellectuals all my life, and in the academic world too.
what you said to me sounds very similar to what they say 2 people when they don't understand something. they intellectualize it, repackage it, and stated the obvious back to you in a sterile and pedantic form. almost always bereft of real information or input.

not to mention I have been spending all this time previous to my post researching the online literature on these various conditions, which is how I narrowed them down to Aspergers, PDD, or schizoid PD. I ruled out schizotypal personality disorder because I do not have magical thinking or psychosis, to the best of my knowledge.

I know you probably didn't mean to come off in that way. so I will overlook your reply.

thanks for responding.

Your "special interests" seem to be rather normal.

One of the better examples of an Aspie special interest is Hoover vacuum cleaners--and the kid knows Hoover better than the guy who has been selling them for years! Not only is is interest unusual and narrow, but it is really narrow--just one brand of vacuum cleaners.

When I played around with model rockets, I spent tons of time designing rocket gliders--no parachute--they would glide back to earth like an airplane :-). A tough hobby--the really good ones wouldn't come down--even after a couple minutes.

I had a great time going to a University--even though it was a really good one--I was able to balance working on my favorite subject and the other classes--I was a real intimidating student in my favorite subjects--as I'd get really good marks and basically blow everyone away....

screen_name,

I think that is incorrect.
could you at least give me the numbers of which ones you think are not part of ASD ?
I'm curious as to which ones you think are not part of it.

oh and by the way, I have many more symptoms which I have neither the energy nor memory to post. do to my experiences in life, my short term memory, and some of my long term memory is shot all to hell.

Oh no, not another one of these sorts of members. We need 2 separate WPs.

And seriously? You spend over a paragraph analyzing my reply, then say that you are going to "overlook" it? You're way past that point.

I think 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and maybe 9 do not apply.

I do hope you find the answers you are looking for. We aren't going to be able to give you a satisfactory answer here.

BTDT,

Good reply.
so you are saying there are no ask these out there that have more "normal" special interests?

what about learning Japanese at the age of 13 with little or no help from Japanese speakers ? I was fluent by the age of 16.

I would have thought that is a very Asperger's trait. but of course, I could be wrong.

This planet belongs to Aspies. There could well be another planet where you are more welcome, but by definition, we aren't very social and don't know much about other places.

Where I grew up learning a second language would be something that any parent would be proud of--what is so special about that? Particularly a mainstream language like Japanese.

Starkid,

do you see how you refer to people?

" oh no not another one of these...", and
" we need to separate WPs..."

aloofness, separateness, better than thou, etc. like I have leprosy or something.

call me crazy, but I do not like being treated in that fashion.

I was just stating what I thought was a fact,
that your reply didn't have any useful information for me, and you assumed I didn't do my homework before coming to this forum.
which is fine, I do not want to argue with you.

let's just agree to disagree, and call it a day

peace out

Just curious, how would you respond (assuming you have a working vehicle, license, insurance, and a surplus of fuel) if someone asked you to go to the store to buy toilet paper?

BTDT,

Planet is for aspies ? Which planet would that be ? lol
you assume already that I am NOT on the spectrum,
then ostracize me, saying that there is a nother planet out there to which I belong. tell me, do you think your words are harsh at all ?

and Japanese is not my second language, it's my fifth language.

but of course, you already knew that, because you seem to think you are omniscient.

maybe I am on the ASD spectrum, there are a very wide diversity of people
on the ASD spectrum. you could be talking to a fellow aspie, without understanding that you are.

ajpd1989,

I never go out at night anymore. I used to be fearless (if I know the area is safe), sometimes went jogging at the neach at 1am. but that is because it is mostly deserted, and there is almost nobody there. which is my favorite type of place. places that are deserted, where people do not live or exist.

I abhore grocery stores. they are like prisons to me.
and what makes it worse is that supermarkets have swallowed up all the business and all towns today. so that I don't have a choice but to go to these corporate super stores and buy all their sh%tyy goods from them.

even small family owned stores put me on edge sometimes.
it's clear I do not enjoy interacting with other human apes.

usually I stay home unless it's absolutely necessary for me to go out and buy something. Like TP, for example.

You made several (incorrect) assumptions and went off on many tangents.

All I've gathered from your posts so far is that you are misanthropic, critical of others, and have anxiety issues.
