...by you can't get services for being high-functioning?

I have seen people say how they are too high functioning to get help and services. What exactly does this mean?

Do they mean they can't get help in school like more time to turn their work in or do tests or get their work modified or have a teacher's aide? Do they mean they can't get into voc rehab because the people there think they are too mild for their help? Are they not able to get on disability allowance/Social Security? What do you mean by you can't get services due to being too mild/too high functioning?

I have always gotten help, got Social Security, been eligible for voc rehab, had an aid in school and had my work modified and I was on the IEP. I wonder if comorbids have anything to do with me getting help or my medical history or does it depend on the area I am in?And I am mild and very high functioning.

It always baffles me how someone can seem more severe than me and still can't get services because they are "too mild" or "too high functioning" or is my own perception about me off? I just can't understand how others are unable to get the help they need and I did.

You might wanna rephrase the title of this topic a little bit. When I read it. it sounded like to me, that you meant you where high on drugs.

 I assume the OP ran out of space in the subject line.

It sounded to me like the OP went into a Disability Services Office while high on drugs and they told her to get out and she started arguing with them, "what do you mean I can't get services here if I'm high?! !"

But to answer the question, I look totally normal and I can get jobs but I can't KEEP jobs since I keep getting fired around every three months. I seem too normal to get on Long Term Disability and eventually I had to apply with a wrong diagnosis of Schizophrenic even though I'm not schizophrenic.

Off Topic: Running out of space on the subject line is one of my major frustrations with this site.

I did. Darn limited characters for thread titles.

I've been caught between service providers, for instance:

Speech therapist does what I need, but only has materials for children--refers me to local autism center...who only offers speech therapy to its residents.

And bam, I'm iut of speech therapy again. (But, I wouldn't call that because I'm too "high functioning" at speech...because I'm not...). But, that's how I might understand someone when they say this. That there are no local therapists who offer what they need.
