Hi, 15 year old very intelligent son, mild aspergers (loves technology especially computers - minecraft addict, taking an afterschool robotics arduino programming 2 hr. per week course), terrible attention and lack of motivation for subjects he finds hard or boring at school and studying at home.

He looked up ritalin and freaked out when he saw the "potential" side effects (saw suicide, hallucinations, etc.)

So he stopped taking it.

I'm freaked out. thank god it's end of schoolyear and most of the important work has already ended. This child/young man could have a good future in technology-software, but at this point I dont even see him finishing High School.

He's been taking Ritalin for one year, and with lots of effort on my part and a little bit on the school's part and lots of private tutoring at home, he's been doing "well". Better than some kids in his class, but his grades are so-so. He's well-loved at school and has friends.

He sees a therapist twice a week. I havent spoken to her yet about the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy she'll be using with him for his attention. i'll talk to her tomorrow.

Meanwhile, i'm researching neurofeedback.
Its sounds wonderful, but what is the reality ??
Anyone used neurofeedback for attention?

We live in Spain so i'm currently in the process of googling doctors in this field Madrid, just now starting to research the matter.

Any advice, personal experience, information would be greatly appreciated from the heart.
