When you can't fall asleep or get woken up after only only one hour of sleep and can't fall back asleep, do you often get in an ovetwelmed state where your really overwelmed and think a lot of fear-based and hopeless thoughts where you seem to be upset about a lot of things? And then it seems like no matter how hard you try the fearbased thoughts just don't seem to work it self out but instead go in a circle and you only feel more crappy. I'm feeling this way right now after someone woke me up after only two hours of sleep. I find this often happens on days where sleep is critical. Relate?

Sometimes. Especially on days when I know that I have to wake up early in the morning.
(If it happens on other nights I just screw it and watch anime or browse the net till 4AM then I calm down and go to sleep so it isn't much of a deal)

It's stress induced insomnia. http://www.cosmopolitan.com/health-fitn ... cts-sleep/
The more you worry the less you are able to fall asleep and the more worried you get because you know you are losing your chance to get enough sleep with every minute of worrying.

I don't. I just feel really tired & hard to focus & appear happy.

It actually makes me kind of high like I've been on speed for days.

I relate. I have generalized anxiety disorder. Lack of sleep can really exacerbate it.

Oh, yes indeed. It started about 40 years ago when I was GPA-obsessed undergrad. I would toss and turn worrying about grades. At the time I made the misjudgment that the cure was to knock back a nightcap (scotch & soda). Let's just say that, for me, that was an ill-advised choice.

What usually works for me now is to turn on an audiobook when I go to bed. It is like having someone read me a bedtime story, giving my mind something to focus on instead of spinning off into Anxietyville.

when i'm tired i can't get overwhelmed by anything, it just makes me feel like i'm moving through a haze and my mind is foggy.

i need a lot of sleep each night and if i don't get that then i'm not really good for anything.

Lately my hormones have caused some crazy sleep patterns. I'll be up for three or four days straight and then I'll sleep for about 18 or 20 hours and get up for maybe six hours and then sleep for twelve more. Then it's up for three or four more days. I've tried making myself stay up for certain times and making myself lay in bed for certain times and it just doesn't work. I think it will straighten itself out after menopause is finished.

no not really, i get exhausted and sleep deprived but i don't shut down the same way i do when I'm having a sensory overload or need time alone.

i do get constant bouts of insomnia though, sometimes not being able to sleep for up to 72 hours or even more.
