Sometimes the light in my room seems to become darker for a split second and it always distracts me from whatever I was doing. Most people wouldn't notice it or just ignore it but I can't get my mind off of it.

This happens at times; when a lot of power is drawn from your base station (which serves an entire block, usually), the currently active devices get a bit less power for a split second.
This causes, among other things, the lights to experience a dip in the amount of light they produce.

Although annoying, it is less so than the constant flicker of fluorescent tubes, another effect which NTs seem to easily miss

Do you mean artificial light? Or sunlight?

Yeah, I too think you may ne noting a brief downward power fluctuation, sometimes called a brownout. My experience is that some electronics really dislike them.

I notice all kinds of changes in light patterns. Quick electric surges/drains, quick passing clouds in natural light, changing shadows, etc. I even notice when there's a lot of dust in the air or when the humidity creates a haze. I don't know how much of this stuff other people notice. I don't really talk about it.
