It's 2:42 in the morning, and yet again I lack the ability to get to sleep early. My brain wants to keep me up with distractions all night. Its ruining my life and relationships. I need a way to get to sleep before midnight. No ands ifs or buts. I'm tired of disproving to my parents that I can be responsible and get up for my appointments. I'm sick of being lazy, I can't get off my phone or internet at night. Any good advice?

Make it a rule about two hours before you go to bed, no phone, no internet and no arguing with your parents. Just relax on the couch reading a pleasant book, or listening to music. Try to unwind the brain from all the problems you were having during the day. At the point you go to bed you don't want to be thinking about all the personal things going on in your life. That is what in my opinion is keeping you awake.

What time do you go to sleep and usually wake up?

I use to have a lot of sleeping issues and my schedule would get messed up all the time, just keeping busy during the day is probably the biggest thing you can do. I'm always tired when I get back after being gone all day, the heat here certainly leaches it out of you here. Don't drink caffeine, try not to do anything too stimulating before bed but don't get all reflective since that's a good way to be up all night.

Worst come to worst, I just self medicate.

Been waking up at 5 am almost every day the last few months

for a few days to get your schedule reset, you might want to use 3mg melatonin and 1/2 tsp of ground ginger in warm sweetened milk (or water). clue your docs in, as both tend to be anticoagulants.
