The hairstylist was supposed to dye my hair a combination of black and carmel-colored because I'm working towards dark brown at a slow enough pace where the change won't be too abrupt and bother me. But I think she wanted to have fun and make me fashionable, (looking back she had dropped a hint), ... So somehow I ended up with super noticeable blonde highlights that I never asked for and didn't want (along with the black and brown)! AAAIIIEEE ! !!

When she finally let me look in the mirror last night, right away I saw the yellow color and my face just went into a shocked, horrified expression. I tried being a good sport about it, but when I got home and looked in the mirror again, it was still shocking, and even more this morning ... It felt like I was seeing a stranger in the mirror, like the Twilight Zone! If I had to keep seeing myself as a different person every time I looked in the mirror, it would really bother me!

So I took my scissors and cut off as much of the blonde parts as I could out of my hair!

I hope that next time the hairstylist notices that I cut off all the blonde hair and that she never experiments like that again!

The sad thing is, she's better than my previous hairstylist ...
So I'll give her another chance ...
She started talking about "dark roots" and "dark ends" and
weird combinations I didn't understand when she
realized I didn't like the color ...
I'll just have to say "BROWN is BROWN and that's all I want!"
Everybody else (NTs) seems to like hair that looks that way,
(all different colors with blonde)
so she probably thought she was doing me a favor.

That's pretty unprofessional. Your hairstyle is something pretty personal and the perception of what's nice/ugly differs significantly from person to person. So a hairstylist should strictly stick to the style the client wants. Maybe you should explicitly tell her that you want what you like if you are giving her another chance.

You're right.
So things might get really interesting next time ...

Maybe next time bring a picture on your phone/cut out from magazine of the exact color you want, she can match it with her color chart. It leaves no room for miscommunication.

Ive been in a similar situation (with a junior stylist) and returned the next day to have a darker color applied over the highlights by a senior stylist. I moved to a different hairdressers, because they were quite unprofessional about the mistake the junior member made and the whole experience as a consumer was unsatisfactory.

If a hairstylist does something you didn't ask for, they should change it for you for no additional charge. You shouldn't have to cut the highlights out of your hair! You don't have to be a good sport about it. They are obligated to do something to fix it if you aren't happy.

It's true that if you don't like something they've done, the onus is on them to fix it free of charge if they can.

It's a pity you cut the offending bits of hair off, because blonde bits can easily be dyed to the color you wanted. You didn't need to cut it! But I realize you did that in frustration and upset, which is understandable.

But it could have been made right: When hair is lighter than you want it can always be dyed darker. It's when someone wanted blonde and gets black that it's more difficult to correct without having to cut it.

Amity, dianthus, BirdInFlight ...

You're all right. Thank you all very much for your time and kindness in responding.
It's definitely a lesson for next time.
Bringing a photo in is a good idea, and it's good to have moral support
from others about speaking up.
And yes, it was just shocking in the moment.
At least I don't look blonde now!

Thank you for being interested, starfox!

If I can get someone to take my picture
(when I'm not wearing my Indiana Jones hat)
I will post it just for you. :)
