NT's must understand that being socially ret*d doesn't mean you can't have your own life or take care of yourself. In middle school, the other kids thought I couldn't tie my shoelaces or dribble wity a basketball, which wasn't and isn't true.
Also, NTs must understand that being a weirdo doesn't mean you're a rapist or that you watch stupid soap operas.

My high school Resource Room teacher thought that Stage Craft 11 would have been too advanced for me. I saw students two years younger than myself who was in that course and it pissed me off, because I knew that I would have done just as well if that teacher would have given me a chance.

That same teacher also denied me the opportunity to take Psychology, two years in a row for the same vapid reason. Psychology was one of my special interests and I was very knowledgeable about that topic.

I was present at a meeting between a student newly diagnosed with ASD and the university disability bigwig, who said the best thing would be to drop all the academically hard subjects and take easy ones instead. I said that autism is primarily a social impairment rather than an academic one, but my words went in one ear and out of the other. The student's grades at high school were excellent. Go figure.
