You know what guys? Most of us share too much info about ourselves. We share enough that out identity can found. All things put online should be considered there forever.

Alex it says this in one of the sticky posts.

You're right, Starfox, people do have to be careful on the Internet.

There are people who want to take advantage of other people.

Exactly.

Let's not hand over the info so easily. If someone wants to track you they will find a way but at least make it difficult.

It's a shame they don't delete posts though. There's even a sticky that gets you to answer questions about yourself. I'm really so afraid of putting so much information here that it's possible for someone who knows me to recognise it's me and read through my posts. Constantly on my mind. I don't know if I'm being excessively paranoid or if it's a genuine thing to be concerned about. I don't think I've put enough to be tracked the other way - for someone to use the information here to track it back to me. I hope not. But it is always on my mind. I read WP a lot but slowed down posting because of this.

I haven't seen anyone who has posted enough to figure out their real identity here.

That's true,

However what's the reason ?
Employers ? Govt ? Para military ? Obama american killing drone strike s*** list ?

all you need to figure out is what you don't want to share publicly.
and keep yourself at bay in that regard.

ultimately, we don't grow , psychologically and or spiritually, if we don't share.
that seems to be an existential fact that no human being can get around.
so ultimately, it is a balance.

find out where your balance lies.

there are dark forces out there trying to collect any information about you they can. however you can't let them stop you from growing as a human being.
that seems to be easy essential crux.

Lol. Even if someone wanted to find out your identity it probably won't be for malicious reasons. Probably just to see ifs they can and guess correctly.

How so? I don't think people do need to share in order to grow. Explain please.

Only share what you want to share.

It's your choice. You are your own person.

It's smart to be aware of potential risks everywhere--especially the internet.

My mom taught me early on that whatever I write down, someone will read it, whether I want them to or not, so I always try to think about what I write and whether I want someone connecting it with me or not. I know I'm a chronic over-sharer, but it's with things I don't mind sharing.

I don't know how much is too much. I consider publicly posting your DOB, real names, email address and/or photos etc as sharing too much. Probably even posting too many details about your personal/work life could also possibly lead to you being identified by someone determined to catch you. I'm very cautious and never forget that once a piece of info is shared, it cannot be "unshared". Even after you manage to get that particular piece of info deleted from the net, there's no guarantee that no one has already made a copy of that.
