Which of these are Aspie traits?
Good morning, WPers!
I have not long been diagnosed with Aspergers. I'm still at the stage of being really cross that for so many years I've been told my variously weirdesses are all my own fault!
Anyway, coz I'm still pretty new at this stuff, if I jot down a list of weird things I do, could some others with some more experience give some feedback on whether these might be manifestations of Aspergers, or just me being me?
* When I'm in a crowd, I'll often feel like a rock in a stream - like there's all this colour and nosie and movement going on around me, but I'm not really part of it, and don't really understand it.
* I can't SMS. I can't even understand SMS-talk. If I get an email that's all "LOL" and "U R gr8" it takes me forever to work out what they mean and translate it into proper English.
* I have to consciously think to make eye contact.
* Can't judge distance and space to save my life. Parking a car is sheer terror and blind luck. I can make no sense of maths questions of the "how many faces does this object have?" variety.
* I constantly have a stream of thought going totally separate to the 'what I'm doing now' thinking that goes on. Often it'll be repetitively replaying songs, or scenes from TV shows. It goes on ALL the time.
I think that is an AS trait. With the others, it can be AS or just social anxiety perhaps. And the one having trouble with distance and space is something I have trouble with a lot!
Could be AS traits:
* When I'm in a crowd, I'll often feel like a rock in a stream - like there's all this colour and nosie and movement going on around me, but I'm not really part of it, and don't really understand it.
* I have to consciously think to make eye contact.
* I constantly have a stream of thought going totally separate to the 'what I'm doing now' thinking that goes on. Often it'll be repetitively replaying songs, or scenes from TV shows. It goes on ALL the time.
And HEY, I have all the above!
Could be comorbid:
* Can't judge distance and space to save my life. Parking a car is sheer terror and blind luck. I can make no sense of maths questions of the "how many faces does this object have?" variety.
I don't really have the above one, but I DO give myself a wide berth.
I don't think the following is either:
* I can't SMS. I can't even understand SMS-talk. If I get an email that's all "LOL" and "U R gr8" it takes me forever to work out what they mean and translate it into proper English.

Hello,
This is my opinion:
(Aspie)* When I'm in a crowd, I'll often feel like a rock in a stream - like there's all this colour and nosie and movement going on around me, but I'm not really part of it, and don't really understand it.
(Not Aspie)* I can't SMS. I can't even understand SMS-talk. If I get an email that's all "LOL" and "U R gr8" it takes me forever to work out what they mean and translate it into proper English.
(Not Sure)* I have to consciously think to make eye contact.
(Not Aspie)* Can't judge distance and space to save my life. Parking a car is sheer terror and blind luck. I can make no sense of maths questions of the "how many faces does this object have?" variety.
Definitely Aspie)* I constantly have a stream of thought going totally separate to the 'what I'm doing now' thinking that goes on. Often it'll be repetitively replaying songs, or scenes from TV shows. It goes on ALL the time.
That's just my opinion and experience, ok?
Take Care!

I tend to agree, except that the eye contact problem is DEFINITELY Aspie! This is part of the whole "problem with social skills" package that is one of the defining traits for AS.

I have an appointment to go see a psychologist again, where I'll learn more, but they're so booked out there's six to eight weeks between appointments, and it's a little bit overwhelming at the moment!
Youll learn more here than at the psychologists anyway.

Hey. Good to see you here!
1) Aspergers
2) That can be aspie.. I don't reply to meaningless comments and txts because I don't know what to say. It might be an ADD thing too, though with me. It's more of an intelligence thing than an aspie thing. No-one intelligent talks like that.
3)Probably aspie. I automatically don't make eye contact.
4) That doesn't seem like an aspie thing.
5) Neither is that. I think that is just a people thing.
