Anger from noise
Noises make me really angry after a while. Most of all the sound of my family members' voices. And the things they do in the kitchen...use a whisk, turn on a faucet, click the dishwasher door shut. When I make those noises myself I don't mind as much; I think because I am controlling them.
Ugh, and driving to work...i ride with my parents and brother, and the sound of my mom's clothes drive me up the wall. If she talks to me, I just feel angry and jolted, even when it's quiet. If she's writing something down in paper, the sound of the pencil on paper drives me crazy. If she's using her phone and sliding her thumb across the screen in order to scroll through an article, the sound of her thumb on the screen is like someone pulling my hair.
I feel like I'm going to break. I wake up at five every morning and I'm basically spat out into a world of noises because the day starts right then. I don't have a chance to sit quietly somewhere and prepare. I haven't been in this situation before. I mean, I usually go to the job early, but usually I had like thirty minutes beforehand to do my own thing and reflect. But for the past few week it's an immediate jolt into a barrage of noises in the kitchen of my family getting ready and talking and shouting and it hurts, and I'm at the end of my rope, and it just gets harder every day and I feel like I'm going to break. I don't know how to deal with it.
I try to quietly lay in bed under covers in the afternoon/evening to escape and recover but I can still hear everything through my walls.
I don't want to melt down in front of my family.
i have severe noise-induced anger issues as well. my best remedy so far has been washable plastic earplugs.
they took a bit to get used to, but they are well worth it.
i used to use earmuffs, but they slide around and are very clunky. the plugs work the best.

I didn't know there was a washable version of earplugs. I keep running out of the foam ones. Your remedy is very helpful, thanks.
i recommend the 3M Peltor Tri-Flange Ear Plugs
they are inexpensive and work really well. i have had these for years. (that link is for a 3-pack and i am still on my first pair after several years)
if you do get them, i recommend cutting the cord and keeping them in a little earplug box. keeping the cord on tends to cause a lot of scratching noises.

Those look brilliant! Thanks a lot. I went ahead and ordered a pair (3 pairs for 4.70, why not?)
I have a similar problem. I've been diagnosed with misophonia. Maybe you have it, too.
I wonder if it's different from sensory sensitivity. There's not a lot of information about it. It seems like sensory sensitivity is more of a physiological thing because of the bodily symptoms (pain, nausea, etc.), and misophonia is considered to be more of a psychological thing because a lot of people report strong emotions (rage, disgust, etc.)
I live alone, but when I go out I wear ear defenders for low volume noise, and ear plugs underneath the ear defenders for higher volume noise.

I'm almost sure I have misophonia. Certain sounds like people chewing or clipping their nails drives me into a rage.
I do get nausea and pain from other sounds. Usually the nausea happens when I'm in a cafe and too many people are talking at once and there are coffee grinders running, and pain from sounds like a tape measure scraping across concrete, or a miter saw, or hammers. What's weird is things scraping across concrete is painful and I try to avoid it at all costs but it gives me almost a pleasant feeling on my back when it does happen. Kind of like the feeling you get when you have spine tingles from a beautiful song or a hot shower. It's almost like my nervous system is trying to shake the awfulness of the sound.
