Writing a controversial book.... Well sort of

Well besides writing my big Autism book but I'm also writing a book or series of books. this one is called called Justin and I about me and my teddy bear Justin the only problem is Justin is an autism speaks bear.

Do you think people will like it even though Justin is a autism speaks build a bear?

I think people will think it is all right.

Justin represents a character whom you are having discussions with about what is best for autism.

Justin represents Autism Speaks, which seems to be an organization that thinks autism is a bad disease, rather than an alternative way of thinking.

I don't understand I love Justin but I know the bad things about autism speaks. If only Justin represented a different organization or if autism speaks was different.

I didn't know your bear actually represents Autism Speaks.

Well I guess he doesn't represent autism speaks I mean that would be kinda funny a teddy bear representing autism speaks. Reminds me of that South Park episode where family guy was being represented by manatees.

I mean he is an Autism speaks bear I guess that is represented in someway build a bear cut ties with them a while ago.

But this book is basically showing the love of my bear justin and autism awareness. It is a picture book.

Although I'm not too sure About the organization he comes from I still love Justin. In fact he is my favorite stuffed animal. I take him everywhere.

You could post parts of the book here on WP. Maybe somebody will be able to give you tips about how to make it better.

I think this is completely fine.

The focus is not on Justin's creation (that is, that Build-A-Bear was supporting Autism Speaks when he was made), but on his importance and relationship to you.

Unless the fact that Justin came from an Autism Speaks Build a Bear is a major part of the story regarding your support for Autism Speaks and how you agree with all their controversial practices then I think you'll be alright.

If you previously supported Autism Speaks and now don't, you could even describe how you can to that view.

Sounds like your teddy bear is an important companion- and an important character in your story.
So he is vital. And readers can relate to that ( I still remember the teddy bears in my childhood).

And admitting that you got one little trinket ( a favorite toy) from Autism Speaks doesn't negate whatever argument you might make against Autism Speaks as a whole in your book.

If your goal is to be a published writer, you have to go into it with the understanding that people WILL criticize you.

This means that you have to be comfortable with what you are writing. I am a collaborator in a published book and I am sure there are many people out there who did not agree with what I wrote. That is OK with me, and I stand by what I wrote. People are free to have their own beliefs, and someone not agreeing with what I wrote does not diminish the importance of what I wrote.

You have to come to the place that you are comfortable with the fact that Justin is an Autism Speaks Build-a-Bear, even though you may not agree with Autism Speaks, and even though your readers may not agree with Autism Speaks.

I was unaware of a relationship between Autism Speaks and Build-a-Bear....if you didn't tell me about the relationship, I would not know (although I recognize others might). If that relationship is not important in your relationship with Justin, then perhaps you don't even need to mention it, or at least not dwell on it, if you think it might cause problems for your readers.

Maybe I will do that in a bigger version of a book but this is a childrens book so I really don't want to go in to that

Plus I'm trying to change autism speaks not make them hate me since a lot of my counters in my camp supports them. I really want to do something about their company maybe making them I don't know but something because his company is so big and so well-known there has to be some way to change it to then it won't be so bad anymore I mean it'll be good for autistics and maybe we should make our own instead of that make her own company and call it autistics speak. Or something like that.

If auction speaks stopped partnering with organizations like cure autism now and other stuff and started treating autistic people with respect maybe they wouldn't be so bad. And who knows they made very terrible mistakes in the past and present and maybe needs to be changed into as I mentioned autistic speak. That could be the main company that could change out autism speaks altogether.

Instead of walking For a cure will walk for fighting discrimination or bullying and how to make it better. We will really benefit the lives of autistic people. And make sure they live happy fufilling long lives. How many programs do not require you to have such a low adaptive or IQ score and make lower and high functioning autism clasp together and have us learn from one another. People with high functioning asd and Aspergers deserve programs too and support i've been trying to get a program like The Special Olympics directly my area instead of going further away for it and then want to get into a program like the arc or yai but they have a requirement a waiver from the office of people with Develpmental disabilities that has very strict guidelines. And is unfair to the people who are higher functioning and even mid functioning.

And then the test called the ados which is supposed to be the gold standard it's very broken my opinion. Well mainly because they said that I was faking or exaggerating my symptoms and because they said that I was mentally ill and not very autistic even though the test showed symptoms of autism spectrum disorder my psychiatrist believe I am autistic. Because of this test I cannot get services so far besides my services in Northeast and probably if I ever joined their Special Olympics program since they don't require an an ADOS or opwdd. And also my program Achilles. And I hope for more for going to don't require the service and test in the future.
