My school takes the school spirit thing to a ridiculous level and it's just annoying. We even got a legit quiz grade on the school song. I just hate the idea of school spirit in general because the only reason your proud of it is because you were born/ live in the school district, so you have to go there. It's like the only reason people are proud of America is because they were born there, when there a many countries just as good. And plus most of the kids at my school or douches anyway, actually that's probably why I don't have school spirit, cause I hate most of the kids at the school lol

Pepper alleys? Do you mean pep rallys? I never really liked them except too much.

I always despised them when I was in school. I felt that if they were going to force me to be in high school, the least they could do was not waste my time.

When I was in school, no one liked them. The principal used to shout at us that we couldn't go to lunch until we sang the school's fight song with more enthusiasm. :|

Pepper alleys? did autocorrect spell that?

I was in marching band and pep band, so I loved pep rallys. It was time to play music and get up and move around, instead of sitting in class bored to death.

The title of the thread really had me scratching my head.

Reminds me of the child who thought that the grownups in church were all singing about "Gladly. The cross eyed bear" .

Unlike most ASD students, I enjoy pep rallies. Most likely because it gets me out of class on a Friday afternoon before the weekend, but also because of other reasons.
Our school has pretty good spirit.
Each rally starts with the national anthem, usually sang by a choir member, but sometimes performed by our school's band (which always does a good job).
Next is the roll call, where the ASB students give the cue to each grade to scream/yell. I absolutely HATE how freshmen are treated so badly. Booed at and called nasty names. So glad I was in a different school during freshman year, which outlawed that, or I would have had so many anxiety attacks and curse words coming out...
Then they do the actvities, which can consist of cheerleader/drill team performances, salutes to the sports teams, stupid "Competitions", or a mix of both. My leadership class made a list of what we could work on in the school - and I said we need to use our pep rallies to not only salute the football team, but salute those who have academic excellence, and the Special ed kids. :)
Last December I got a small part in the Winter Pep Rally, giving roll call cues. I've attended at least 10 rallies, but the sophomores were never as loud as they were when I gave the cue! :)

Administration never forces us to sing a fight song to go home or to lunch. Thank god.

Pep rallies seem strange. We don't have them in Britain bit it seems like fun. Then again I have a feeling that the purpose is to create a sense of national pride and ' America is the best country in the world'.

It's good to take pride in something but... It means you become biased and believe your country and culture really is better than anyone elses. The truth is there is good and bad parts to everyone's culture.

I liked pep rallies better than being in class or recess. Still didn't like them, though. About all I liked in school was hiding in the library for hours skipping classes and reading books.

The purpose is to allow the football team and cheerleaders to showboat.

Pep rallies beat being in class. The school district I was in for 5th and 6th grade was fanatical about school spirit so we did a lot of that kind of thing. When in Rome...

I thoroughly despised pep rallies, assemblies, etc. Uncomfortable seating, harsh lighting, lots of people, and lots of noise - there what's to like? I was in school to learn, not make idiot jocks feel better for themselves.
