Unlike most ASD students, I enjoy pep rallies. Most likely because it gets me out of class on a Friday afternoon before the weekend, but also because of other reasons.
Our school has pretty good spirit.
Each rally starts with the national anthem, usually sang by a choir member, but sometimes performed by our school's band (which always does a good job).
Next is the roll call, where the ASB students give the cue to each grade to scream/yell. I absolutely HATE how freshmen are treated so badly. Booed at and called nasty names. So glad I was in a different school during freshman year, which outlawed that, or I would have had so many anxiety attacks and curse words coming out...
Then they do the actvities, which can consist of cheerleader/drill team performances, salutes to the sports teams, stupid "Competitions", or a mix of both. My leadership class made a list of what we could work on in the school - and I said we need to use our pep rallies to not only salute the football team, but salute those who have academic excellence, and the Special ed kids.
Last December I got a small part in the Winter Pep Rally, giving roll call cues. I've attended at least 10 rallies, but the sophomores were never as loud as they were when I gave the cue!
Administration never forces us to sing a fight song to go home or to lunch. Thank god.
