Currently in a mall choked up against a corner so I can see my enviroment hating the noise of all the kids running around and the bad music. The only reason I come to a mall nowadays is because I am either in a dire need of clothing or an event is being held there(birthday dinner more often than not). Too many people are here looking at me. Whether it's a small glance or a curious look from the tiny kid looking at someone they are convinced is a giant I can't be in a mall without feeling ill. I was wondering how many of you avoid malls as much as possible .

Not just you mate.

Too many colours, people, noises etc

Plus they are, IMO, temples of consumerism and excesses. One of the many things going wrong with humanity.

I just plug in headphones, buy the stuff I need and GTFO.

I can't think of a mall without thinking of the word 'thrummy'. Not even sure if that is an actual word but that's how it is. The music, the vibration through the floor, the lights, the people, the multi-coloured displays - all seem to thrum. I have to get out before my head explodes.
And speaking of 'the deepest bowels of hell', before I got my glasses the reflection from the fluorescent lights in the shiny floor used to mess with my depth perception big time. I used to feel like I could literally fall into the floor, so I would stumble a lot or suddenly stop and people would walk into me.
Thankfully, the glasses have corrected this. Still, I'm with D0gbert on the GTFO strategy.

I hardly ever go into a mall. They've always seemed strangely unreal to me, though I suppose in truth they're just a bunch of shops in a covered area. I find it easy to get lost in a mall though - I tend to come out of the "wrong" exit and end up in a part of town I don't know. I like the idea of not getting wet, but not so much that I'm particularly tempted to go in. I've got my usual shops out in the open, and I've got Amazon, so I don't see much need to go to a mall for anything I want.

I hate shopping no matter what. The only time I would even hit a mall is if I can't find what I need elsewhere. It takes all I can to shop any of the local supermarkets, let alone a clothing or a furniture store (I prefer shopping the local Salvation Army for clothing and furniture.)

Was in a local Melbourne shopping mall yesterday choked with people and overheard two ladies saying how much they hated crowds. I do most of my shopping on weekdays to avoid aforementioned crowds.

Internet shopping is a paradise for me. I've been taking anti-anxiety medicine lately so the supermarkets and malls have been a little bearable. Usually, all the lights, sounds, people, perfumes, posters, ambient noises, screaming kids, delinquent juveniles and other distractions would make my head feel like it was going to explode. It's really hard to concentrate will all those stimuli colliding into your head at once. I keep my head down when I walk through crowded areas. The sooner I'm gone the better.

Oh yeah... I definitely see the resemblance between a futuristic death arena and a mall, at least in how I feel about it. I can deal with small shops or boutiques a lot better than a mall--easier to escape, clientele is more select. Internet shopping is also a sanity-saver. I haven't been in a mall in a couple of years.

The only thing worse than a mall is a big grocery store or the subway. And I take the subway three times a week (boss lets me work from home two days, thank god).

I love shopping with my child but shopping in the adult world always smacks of social engineering.

I got news for you! Even when shopping with your child, out are still subject to social engineering, as well as incessant brutal marketing by the powers that be.

As a kid I think you are fresh out the box....not much of the engineering to draw on so you buy what you like as opposed to what the neighbours like...if you get my drift. It feels natural to me anyways as opposed to the grown up stuff.

I concur. The only thing I remotely like about the mall.. is that they typically do an excellent job at decorating in the holiday season. Super festive! Even that doesn't make it any easier going in though. I've learned that I have to make a list, and go immediately when they open so there aren't as many people.

I'll go if I have to, but I don't like to. I don't really know what else to add, because I haven't yet been tested for Aspergers (soon). In short, I just feel uncomfortable. Too many people, no real point to going unless I'm actually going there for something. I always look up every now and then and look around rapidly. It makes all of my senses much more active, and I just don't like it.

My sister's ask me sometimes to go down to the "plaza" as it's called where I live (in Australia) to get food, or look at the shops, and it's not that I'm fearful or terrified of going there, I just don't see the point and it's unnecessary discomfort. I'd rather be at home where I'm comfortable.

My only "problem" with malls is that most of the stores in them are boring. I've never had problems with the sounds, colors or crowds I'm not interacting with.
The only time I hate malls are just before Christmas because the stores are so crammed it gets hot as summer and we're there in warm winter clothes, which makes it very hot for the heat sensitive among us.

I like shopping, but I prefer it when it's less busy, like when the kids go back to school. Right now it's the summer holidays, and so I have been avoiding shopping malls.

I don't like crowded shopping malls. The light, smell and music don't bother me, but loud kids and people staring at me does.

I'm not an online shopper so that is out of the question.
