Writing about my experiences and hoping I'll get a diagnosis
I hope I can get an official diagnosis by a psychiatrist, I mean. Because I feel like I need some help, as I have serious doubts about my ability to be fully independent one day.
Currently I'm only diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety.
So I'm writing stuff down on a paper and will give it to my psychiatrist, since I can't express myself very well through spoken language. I prefer writing or typing.
I'm currently being treated for bipolar disorder, and I take meds, but I feel like my doctor should know about my complete personality, and my autistic traits form most of my personality.
- Mild impairment in spoken communication especially in social situations or with strangers
- I hate changes especially if sudden
- I've always had a hard time making friends, it's impossible most of the time. The friends I have are all from school where socialization was forced at some point or they were introduced to me by another friend, and that's all
- I'm very sensitive to lights and sounds
- Sometimes I hate to be touched or hugged. I prefer that people ask
- I don't understand the point of social interaction unless it's needed. I hate small talk and can't maintain stable conversations. I hate speaking
- Too often I find it hard to communicate what I feel or think in a proper way. I often struggle with words
- It takes more time than other people to process thoughts and translate them into words
- I readjust and line up objects compulsively
- I get angry when a noise or light irritates me. I actually get angry and might lash out at someone
- I hate going out in groups. I'm always the weird and quiet one in the group
- After social events I need to isolate myself to recharge, otherwise I feel overwhelmed. Everytime I go out too much and stay around people too much consequences are negative. It all wears me out
- I tried to fit in and act "normal" in the past but always failed, and still fail, so I just decided to completely be myself
- I prefer doing things alone
- I have interests and I find them much more interesting than people
- Socializing often doesn't interest me and I find it nearly impossible
- When I like a topic I talk a lot about it and might not realize the other person is bored or not interested
- Sometimes I fail to understand when it's my turn to speak or whether the other person is done speaking or not
- I don't like making eye contact. It can happen with friends, but with strangers it stresses me out a lot
- I zone out a lot especially when I'm around people, as if I feel overwhelmed and need to mentally isolate myself
- I stim (move legs, feet, rub my nails, clench my jaw, bite my inner cheeks and lips, rub my hands or thighs), and it doesn't happen only when anxious, but also if I'm bored, I'm thinking or if I'm happy. I used to avoid doing this as much as possible because I thought it was not acceptable and my mom still says it's annoying, but now I do it more because I wanna be myself and I like it. I usually do it unconsciously but can stop if they ask me to (and I might do some other less annoying stim)
- I don't like when most people touch me and I have to either rub that part of my body that was touched or have to wash it to erase that feeling
- I've had most of these symptoms since I was a little child, except they were more severe back then (much more social and communication impairment)
- As a child I used to keep certain objects in my drawer and if anyone threw them away I'd freak out amd cry (meltdown?)
- I experienced shutdowns where I was unable to speak
- I'm told I'm always "in my own world" by other people
- I get attached to objects or places especially if they're a routine
- I feel anxious if I have to travel
- When I was a child I had meltdowns because I didn't want to travel
- I get scared if someone yells at me or attacks me and I might shutdown
- I feel too different from others and like I'm from a different planet
- People tell me I have poor coordination and can't use my hands very well
Uhhh that's all I remember now. Of course I didn't make a list to give my psychiatrist, but it was more like a diary page or something, describing experiences in a more detailed way and writing down my own feelings and experiences in a world I find hard to understand.
p.s: I described my difficulties with communication and socialization a few years ago to my ex psychologist and she said "these are autistic traits here", so it kinda confirmed my thoughts and my mother's thoughts. I just want a psychiatrist to help me with a diagnosis.
