Is talking too fast related to having NLD? I was diagnosed with NLD, and talk very fast. I saw on the Internet that some other people with NLD speak fast as well. Since the rate of speech is underneath paralinguistic codes, which is a right brain function, could it have a similar cause and occur along with NLD, or would it be a part of it? What do you guys think?

Also, anyone know any tips for making yourself slow down the rate of speech?

I suppose it could. I learned to speak at a younger age than my older siblings, and I have always talked fast. Where my learning problems are is in math. As far as slowing down, you have to make a conscious effort to do so. I do, but when I get agitated or excited, I speak at a rate of a mile a minute. I'm 53, and I don't think this is going to go away, I just have adjusted to it.

I think I actually speak slower than normal, but have heard a great deal of others speaking quickly. I think it may have something to do with wanting to get ideas out quickly and communicating all that they are feeling into the world, but I could be wrong.

I spoke very late (age 5.5). I speak fast. I probably have NVLD.

Have you looked into mindfulness or meditation?
This simple practice will allow you to be less stressed out and talk slower.
