Is there such a thing as that? I think I might be one of them.

Maybe HFA?

I think we need a little more detail - what traits from each are you experiencing?

Here's my traits:

Lack of social skills
Can't always talk a lot.
I have trouble with math.
Normal IQ.
I'm a slow learner.

Sorry, I can't think of anymore.

Closest AS trait match:

Lack of social skills
Doesn't like, and isn't adept with small talk
Normal or above IQ.
More likely to easily learn subjects of interest to an advanced degree.

You might be HFA, ADHD, or dyscalculia.

I jump up and down on the spectrum. I act aspie and then I am higher than AS. I don't understand why I got diagnosed with AS instead of PDD-NOS. Or is PDD-NOS less than AS? Some people think its worse than AS. I used to think it was milder than AS.

Actually, the floor of HFA is lower than AS, but you can be HFA and BETTER than some AS people. There is a kind of intersection, but they aren't quite the same. PDD-NOS is MEANINGLESS! It basically says you have a PDD (which includes LFA/HFA/AS/etc...), but that it isn't specified. So PDD-NOS could be lower or higher than anything else. PDD-NOS is really kind of a copout. If you match the AS guidelines, you should be diagnosed AS. If you don't, but you meet HFA guidelines, you should be HFA. If you have a low IQ or are otherwise substantially impaired, but meet autistic guidelines, it should be LFA. If you don't quite match, or the doctor doesn't want to research, it is PDD-NOS.

I am confused...

AS follows a specific criteria, and is usually thought to be the mildest form of Autism. It too is a spectrum, some AS individuals are nearly HFA, others can slip into adult lives undiagnosed.

Autism is usually much more severe. There is LFA and HFA, basically the distinguishing factor is IQ. However, some LFA's can surprise you down the line and become less affected by it.

If you don't fit into the AS or Autism criteria, then you may be DX'ed with PDD- NOS. This is the catchment where everyone that is not one or the other, but thought to have a form of PDD fall. Some may be mildly affected, not full blown AS. Others may be worse off, but not meet all the criteria for either.

I think you need to revisit the criteria for both conditions. Keep in mind that some AS individuals particularly have very successful lives. It is thought that computer programers, engeneers and doctors can have AS.

I'm a computer programmer, and I swear that I have just about every symptom in the DSM to a degree. Actually, programming logically, would be nearly the PERFECT job for the average aspie! It requires a logical mind, a decent event memory, and the ability to learn a simple language. OH YEAH... Often, little or no human interaction!

I wonder how many aspies on here are diagnosed with it but don't meet the criteria? (meaning they didn't meet all of the requirements)

Royger, I think you're welcome here and belong here, regardless of your exact diagnosis.

I'm similar to you:

I'm socially ret*d
Emotionally I'm below average
I can barely speak verbally
I have trouble with pretty much everything
I have an above average IQ; genius IQ on a good day
I can't learn

I'm said to be autistic for the simple of reason of how disabling my condition is...I personally don't think there's much difference between the two, just the severity of the "symptoms" means that one has another name: going by the experiences of those who’ve posted on this forum that is….

Welcome, Royger.

I tested in the midrange between "normal" and AS. I have quite a few of the traits, including unusual interests. Fortunately, I don't have any of the learning problems associated with AS, and my strong subjects were English and languages.
