Sorry for the double post, but I did want to address the issue separately.
It will always be that way. It is the basic law of numbers. The larger population percentage will always set the basic norms in society. Laws codify extremes.

What actually worries me is the societal norm now of extremism. The activists that take on a cause to the point they actually become what they hate and are just as oppressive.

I too would wish a much more moderate take as you suggest. A middle ground that can be respected and understood. But, even that would be hard for even the most moderate of people for limitations will always arise.

There is no panacea I believe. But, I do need to understand MY limitations.
