I've been finding I sit at my laptop for many hours, just surfing, sometimes aimlessly, other times visiting specific sites or playing games.

During interactions with family, or after completing a chore, it feels calming. But I also feel it is a sort of shield against too much incoming data.

I know it's not that good for me, my body would benefit if I got up and moved around, my household would benefit if I tidied the place up. I seem only to be able to do purposeful activity in short spurts, then need laptop time to recover. I wish I could sit behind this blasted screen less, yet here I am, aware of the issue and doing nothing differently.

I'm definitely addicted to the internet.

The thing for me about sitting in front of a computer, Is that I feel more in control. Nothing happens on a computer unless I tell it to. Plus the fact that I can interact with others without having to make face to face contact helps a lot. Especially when most ASD people have a problem with social interaction in the first place.

Here's a drastic simplification of what happens on one of my usual days:
Wake up, get up. Turn on computer.
Do computer stuff.
Put computer into standby mode. Go to sleep.

Earthling, don't you eat? Eating fits into even a grossly oversimplified account of my day.

My routine: Get up and eat breakfast that my spouse makes for me.
Do computer stuff.
Go to work, do computer stuff there. Eat lunch that my spouse sent to work with me.
Go home, eat dinner my spouse prepared.
Do computer stuff until bedtime, sometimes while also watching t.v.
Go to bed. Get up and grab a lat snack. Go back to bed and try to sleep.

I was looking for a thumbs-up or a +1 thingie, because I have nothing to add but my sympathies and I hate the quote feature, but there you go.

It maybe too much in others opinions, but for me it gives me a sense of calm, restores my energy and helps me feel included in a world that is difficult to understand and drains me of my energy.

I was kinda joking, but I really did see a ted talk last night about the effects of one thing on the internet- internet porn- on your brain. Complicated, but like what smoking does to your lungs- and it reverses when you quit it (like smoking). Interesting. Effects on us men, doesnt apply to women so much.

While at home with my husband, yes. While at home only with my son, not anywhere near as much. While on vacation at my parent's, hardly at all.

For me it's more boredom and not having anyone with whom I can have an actual conversation. Yes, my husband will listen to just about anything I say, but he never has anything interesting to say. He doesn't read books, doesn't read the newspaper, has no special interests, nothing. He lives each day just existing, not learning anything new, so after a while I just get bored and spend hours on the internet reading, learning new thing, blogging or working on my online business.

When I am alone with my son, we are normally homeschooling and we have a great time together, so I hardly ever really go into the internet except to check Facebook or similar a few minutes.

I spend most of the day on the computer. Probably at least 8 hrs. I am trying my best to reduce it, because there is something clearly wrong if you sit for so long, and as you say glued to your computer. The bottom line is I spend so long on it mostly because it helps to keep me numb. I tend to overthink and analyze a lot of problems I face in daily life. The computer distracts me from these issues and makes me feel at ease.

...Which is why I reduce it so much.
I hope one day my (future, one can dream) girl will be all I need.

I was glued from 10 am to 2 pm today, coding my homework.
Now that the code works, time to go out for a drive and walk.
I spend a lot of time working on my computer, but I try to balance with doing hands-on expts and physical activities.

Too much!

As soon as I open my eyes, I check my e-mails...then I make a cuppa and check all my forums I subscribe to and see if there's been any responses in any of my subscribed topics and read/reply as necessary...then I go on Youtube to see if any of my posted videos on there have any replies or 'likes'...then I go onto Twitter to see if anybody has posted on my 'wall' there and read/reply as necessary...then I check my blogs...

This takes about 1-2 hours...

Then I let it go for a couple of hours before it is 'rinse and repeat'.

This goes on until I go to sleep and close my eyes...then when I wake up, I do it all over again.

Yeah, I spend way too much time on the computer! I generally prefer it to watching TV or anything else I could really be doing.

My basic weekday routine:

Wake up.
Brush teeth.
Eat breakfast while watching two episodes of a TV show.
Computer time.
Lunch break.
More computer time.
Work out (depends on the day).
Do any volunteer-related work or household chores I may need to do (we do most cleaning on the weekends in my house). Otherwise, stay on the computer.
Say hello to my mom when she gets home, chat about our days.
Eat dinner.
Computer for about half an hour.
Go to town if I need/want anything, or just to get out of the house for a bit if I'm feeling cooped up.
Go for a walk if I didn't work out earlier. Once in the while, I do both.
Read a book for a while.
Night time TV watching, depending on the day. Sometimes I have a snack, but not always.
Any hygiene needs that should be taken care of, like shower, brush and floss, etc.
Computer time until bed.

Sometimes I swap out some computer time to play video games.
