It's one adjective thing I really hate being called. I am a sensitive person, but being called "over-sensitive" really grinds my gears.

I find it very infuriating when people say that to me.

I think I probably am overly sensitive but I don't express it, probably internalized and dead at 50.

I don't get called that a lot, but if I did I would be annoyed. I don't see why people get to discount my feelings about a certain thing just because they wouldn't get upset over that thing.

Truthfully, there are people who wished I was MORE sensitive--though I might then be called "over-sensitive"

Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

I just act like myself.

I don't like it also. I think I can be passionate about certain things but when people call me "over sensitive" they're getting it wrong. I'm not.

I think that often when people say "you're being oversensitive" what they really mean is "this thing matters more to you than it does to me and that's wrong/bad." And it is irritating.

Somewhat in line (I think) with what KraftieKortie said, I've noticed many, many people are far too insensitive. Either because of systematic desensitization in their environment (subculture, media, etc) or because it's far easier to ignore something (for some people) than to question why it/they may be a poor fit.

I read that sometimes an abusive person will accuse their victim of being oversensitive to try and make the victim feel guilty.

In which case, no I'm not oversensitive,
the other person is simply being rude or mean.

I've been told that by a job placement officer that I had when I was 20. I was also told that by my own mum many times. I was also treated like I wasn't supposed to have any feelings from the time that I opened my mouth and started speaking. Don't talk about your interests. Don't talk through your nose (like a Cockney sort of thing). Don't draw that 60s s**t in your sketchbook....DRAW WHAT YOU SEE! (I'm glad I didn't take that piece of advice. I would have drawn vilified pictures of my NT peers during my Grade 9 year).

I've forced myself to work at a factory job that I hated between the ages 20 and 23 to prove a point that I wasn't oversensitive to the point of having a mental breakdown.

I have no idea how they perceive things. I may appear over sensitive.

All I know is that what I think I am projecting is a lot of patience. And, by the time I get really torqued, I think I've been pretty patient up to that point.

But, I really don't know how I project myself. I really don't know how it's received.

The Internet is a harsh place and you have to understand that.

Everyone who has said that to me has been IRL.

Real life is much harsher than the Internet.

Yeah, sometimes it can be.

Indeed, on the Internet you don't have to read/use body language, and in real life you can be physically abused, not just verbally.
