My first thread on WP ( I believe, don't know how to check) was concerning a dear aspie friend of mine who was going through hard times. I then learned from posters here about autistic burnout, that suddenly can envelop a person in suffering and dysfunction, this was I believe happening to her. It helped me to know that I needed to lay off the pressure and just be there for her until the time came when she was able to function.
Since then she has passed her bar exam and last week found an excellent position in a government office with many benefits, decent salary and a friendly environment.
My friend really believed that she was cursed and had no luck, that everything always goes wrong for her in life. The bar exam was passed on the fourth attempt. It involved each time taking out a six month block of time in order to deal with the vast amounts of legal material to review. Being aspie she suffered great stress, came out in abscesses, rashes, couldn't sleep. Four times she endured this. She didn't give up.
She passed!! !
Despite the fact that she never did well in interviews for jobs, is not a feminine lady nor does she dress to impress, same black masculine clothes every day, she continued searching for a steady job with social benefits where she would not be over -qualified. We have worked together for fifteen years in an international language school where she was highly over-qualified.
I am over the moon for my friend, my tenacious and brave friend who survives on two hours sleep a night, hates confined spaces, and for whom no favour for a friend is too great. I read here about despair and hardship which are authentic and heart-wrenching, but please don't give up. Sometimes it takes just one more leap of faith for things to turn around and finally be good.
Here's to everyone finding their way, however they choose to live their lives.
