Hey everyone!

I believe pickiness with food is a common trait many Aspie's share, my self included. I'm sure I'm not the only one that survives mostly on Breakfast cereal and pasta. At college with no stove and cafeteria food out of the question (they can't even make chocolate pudding without screwing it up), I'm struggling to get enough variety and nutrition in my diet. Texture is a big deal for me, I love the flavor of fruit but can't stand to eat the fruit itself.

I was hoping for some ideas from other Aspies of healthier foods that can be prepared in a microwave or even just share your favorite thing to eat :D .

In college I ate a lot of Easy Mac and Ramen. Lots of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Einsteins Bagels, too (they had them on campus). I always had a hard time eating my fruits and veggies. It helps that I like to drink V8. I got used to my school's cafeteria food after a while and started to eat there once a day on average.

There are lots of soups you can make in a microwave (like those Campbell's cup of soup things). They taste good and can get you more veggies into your diet.

Microwaved cheese sandwiches
Microwaved chocolate bread balls (not healthy though)

Our college cafeteria usually had edible food... and constantly available breakfast cereal... But they also had a big pot of rice, and my friends and I used to make "cheese rice." It's as simple as it sounds. Get a portion of rice (Minute Rice is easy and works well, and it has microwave directions, I think) and add cheese. 2 parts rice to one part cheese is about right. Shredded cheddar was always my favorite.

You can buy quite a lot of microwave food I think. I have, on average, about 3 packets of MicroChips per day. At the moment I'm going throuhg a crinkly phase but there used to be other ones, straight ones, that we bought in Asda I think. This still isn't healthy though. But I mean there are lots of microwavable foods.

I like to add veggies to ramen. you can do that in the microwave. Another thing is tomato soup or even heating up V-8 juice like tomato soup.

Well, I am not that picky at all really. I buy mostly organic meat and veg and cook up several nights worth of suppers in a row so that I am only cooking about twice a week, one day a week I eat out and the rest is just reheating mainly apart from adding pasta or potatoes to the protein side of things; I will admit to having a favourite meal that I may cook up for several weekends in a row though and then I get to fancying something else for a good few days, but apart from that, I like my food and quite enjoy the whole process of cooking it, eating it and putting the dishes in the dishwasher.

Yeah having good food has been problematic for me for most my life. To the point where I would just like to invent a simple meal replacment drink. I had the idea of using
malto-dextrin (glucose polyomers, made from corn starch) and add large amount to
skim milk(or powdered milk) as the basic buiding block. But I do not care for the taste of non-fat milk. I do in fact have a few pounds of maltodextrin but its only a little better than sugar I think since it digest quickly.

I live on basically whole milk for many years so i know I could infact could live on a good tasting drink. I have some expensive Bordens whole milk now that taste very good :) I think if you put extra milk solids in milk it taste better.

I want to buy a 50 lbs bag of couscous which is an instant pasta. I figure it could provide alot of my energy needs.

I have always been a very picky eater. Today I ate:

homemade bread w/ natural peanut butter

and a salad made from:
3 grated carrots
strip of red bell pepper
3/4 cup roasted potatoes
cashews
raisins
parsley and scallion
1/2 cup pink beans
juice of one orange

If you want some fruity goodness without having to actually eat fruit, could you get a blender and make smoothies?

My favourite recipe is a banana or two plus some other fruit chopped up in the blender, with just enough milk or fruit juice to cover it (don't use dairy with oranges, pineapple, things that curdle!) and maybe some honey if you like sweet things, and blend it all until it's like a milkshake. I find it a nice easy way to get some fruit into my (fairly poor) diet.

This is something I developed when I had my jaw rebuilt and had to eat through a straw.

Put a banana, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some cinnamon, sugar, and apple cider in the blender. In those less enlightened/paranoid days, I also added a raw egg for protein.

We had an old fashion malt/shake making machine at my childhood home. And my mom told us to put a raw egg in them!

i can't entirely explain this but i have some sort of mental hold against eating fruit and vegetables (except potatoes).
i am completely addicted to crisps and i have spent all my life eating very unhealthy food and taking vitamin supplements now and again to compensate.
