- autistic people cannot express or feel empathy
- all autistic people hate being touched
- all people with aspergers have a high IQ
- vaccines cause autism
- Cold Refrigerated mothers cause autism
- children grow out of autism
- People with autism do not desire friends ( i know theres a lot of controversy around a post i made and theres been a lot of misunderstandings, i DID NOT intend to say that people dont desire friends regardless of the title, i ment is people with autism do not experience emotional connections the same way NTs do. Im sorry if i didn't explain it right)
- Autism is an epidemic
- Autism is a behaviour problem
- people with autism have no emotions

More myths:

- Autistic people are the next stage in human evolution.
- Autistic people more 'psychic' than non-autistic people.
- Autistic people can communicate telepathically with animals.
- Autistic people are space-aliens in human form.
- Autistic people are angels or demons in human form.
- An autistic person occurs when an animal first reincarnates into a human form.
- Autistic people will change or save the world with their special 'powers'.

There are too many to count, besides the standard basic set of proven real behaviors associated with the conditions. I'll try to think of a few.

-Autistic people aren't telepathic, compared to the rest of the general population, which operates on a subconscious hivemind.
-Autistic people lack self awareness, or they actually have greater self awareness
-Autistic people are solely responsible for the creation of the modern world
-Autistic people have a higher percentage of Neanderthal DNA
-Autistic people have an extreme male brain
-Autistic people are "gifted" or "broken"
-Autistic people aren't humans

- Those on the spectrum are intellectually gifted in at least one subject
- Those with Asperger's/HFA have above average IQs
- Anyone who is autistic loves sci-if shows like Star Trek & Firefly
- Those on the spectrum hate reading fiction
- Autism can be "cured" by the process of chelation and eliminating certain nutrious substances

Autistic people do not exist because the disease is a public relations creation by Big pharma or parents looking for benefits or people looking to excuse the fact that they are lazy, rude, or socially ret*d.
Aspergers does not exist, it is a creation made so parents do not have to say they have an autistic person in the family, and for autistics to say they are not autistic.
Aspergers = savant
If you are not like Rainman you are not autistic.
If you are not like Sheldon you are not Aspie
If you are an adult you can't be autistic
If you are female you can't be autistic
If you can write, hold a job, have a relationship you are not autistic and it is offensive for you to comment about autism.
You can't be autistic, you "have autism"
If you are obsessed with beauty, fashion, rock stars you can't be autistic
If you are a good athlete you can't be autistic
Autism is an epidemic
Autism is a recent phenomenon (Where are the 50 something autistics?)
People who have autism are not human
There is a normal cute kid inside who has been kidnaped by a vaccine
People who have autism are a puzzle

Nope, not here. While I do have a fascination with certain numbers, doing things equally, preferring even odd years to even years, etc, I am awful with math. I'm glad I can prove that stereotype wrong.

If you find people voicing these claims as their own, run away. They're the same kind of people who want to take "Cripples" and "ret*ds" (their words, not mine), and either lock them away from "normal" people, or otherwise make them disappear permanently.

here are two myths I find annoying.

Vaccines cause Autism.

Autistic people don't have Empathy (in my experience I've found it's the NT's that don't have any.

Autistic people are savants

If you can talk, you are not autistic

Autistic people do not have any emotions and can't feel them

Lot of autistic people also have mental retardation

Autistic people are not interested in anyone so they ignore everyone

Autistic people lack imagination

Aspies are into science and good with computers and good with inventing things

Autism is a childhood condition

Schizophrenia and autism are on the same spectrum

Autism is caused by bad parenting

Asperger's is not autism

Aspies are like Spock and like a robot

Aspies hate fiction

Autism is a difference

Here are two horrible ones from an academic paper about nursing students and social work students and their perceptions of autistic people:

-Autistics do not experience personal growth
-Autistics do not have good personal hygiene

Ugh.
