Hi everybody!

I am a self aware Aspie (as my signature says) and am currently waiting for formal confirmation from the therapist/doctor/whatever (tomorrow will be my first convo with the therapist).
Anyway, I was wondering: When I get an official diagnosis, will I have to be on medication?
Or can I refuse medication? (I prefer to go on without it because I had medication before and it did not go well with me).

Thanks for reading!

:) xx

There is no kind of medication for autism. Especially something you would be required to take. A lot of us are on meds, but that's because we have things like clinical anxiety and or depression in addition to autism. But you know how a lot of docs love to push pills.

I don't take any medication.

I can understand your reluctance to take medication.

Thank you for the responses!

Yes, I know there is no cure or medication for it, but just wanted to know if the doctor might want to give me medication for something else related with having Autism, like maybe anxiety or whatever. They have already given two different diagnosis for me (which I think are co-morbids of Aspergers) and they tried giving me medications for those ones, but I already said no thanks to that!

Thanks for telling! :) I will prefer not to take any medication at all, actually. I think just knowing more about AS and how it affects me has been very helpful and made me feel very at peace about myself and my place in the world.

:) xx

As others said, there is no medication for Asperger's, so they shouldn't try to make you take anything.

I, like many people, take medication for anxiety and depression. If you have similar issues caused by your AS, you could try medication for that, but if you are fine without, then I'd recommend you carry on without :).

I take Zoloft for OCD and anxiety, but these are things non-autistics can suffer from too. That said, they are common co-morbids for autism.

Unless you're locked in a mental hospital under the care of the doctors and the state, no one is permitted to require that you take any sort of medication. I was diagnosed in 2014, but didn't start taking axiolytics until six or seven months ago, and I went to the doctor and asked him for them; nobody told me I had to. Good luck with your assessment tomorrow, let us know how it goes!
