Like when I go on a website forum anywhere except for wrong planet they use austic as an insult for stupid it mad me mad. Once someone accused some troll of having aspergers. Then someone said most trolls have as aspergers syndrome. Then someone jokingly replied it's not my fault I have assburgers! Like why do people have such views of the autism spectrum.

They're idiots--ignore them.

These are people who can't insult somebody to their face, yet can insult that somebody online. They're punks.

I'm guessing that people hate autism because they aren't as social as NT's, and NT's may fear that people with autism are psychopaths or maniacs. Another guess is that they hate it when we stim, from when we make weird noises or flap our hands.

Because people don't know autistic people.

Ignorance breeds incorrect stereotypes.

People sometimes go online because they have lousy lives. They take out their problems on other people.

Yes, sad to say, I've seen this on the internet in general also. I look at other sites and forum boards and it actually seems to be the latest "trend" in insults. I've seen trolls use it lately like it's the worst thing you could say to hurt someone. It's pathetic. But the people who are using this are just ignorant jerks who don't know anything about it. Try not to get rattled; they're idiots and not worth it.

Yeah intact I think a lot of people think aspergers=sociopath. Because of some aspies lack of emotion or distance or weird behavior.

Tell these people to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Then just go on to some other forum.

I thought maybe it has something to do with groups like Autism Speaks painting Autism as one of the worse things you could have. Some people even support the group! So maybe that's where some of it is coming from.

Probably not. It has to do with people's notions of autism dating back to at least the 1960s.

Most people don't really know or care about Autism Speaks.

"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise half of them are stupider than that." - George Carlin

I think that just about sums it up.
Autism etc, have become somewhat buzz-words in recent years, which is why such phrases get used as an insult. It's the current trend at the moment and eventually it will move on to another condition. I wouldn't read to much into it, it's just stupid people who are too stupid to come up with real insults.

It's just 100% ignorance. The people doing it likely know absolutely nothing about autism or any of the entities or individuals associated with it, good or bad. They're just picking it out as something to use.

Perhaps the reason why it's become the new casual insult only has to do with the fact that there is more general talk about autism out there these days, but still the people who pick up on it as an insult don't actually find out anything more about it beyond glancing at headlines etc. So, it's in their head but without any actual information or education, just the assumptions about it, so out it comes as the worst thing they think they could say. It's the insult du jour. I suppose they think it's cleverer than the R word.
