i dont think i ever think of anything funny.

but sometimes ill just start randomly smiling and am about to laugh and cover my mouth to hide it.

I see this from time to time in fellow autistic schoolmates.

Some schizophrenics do this too. Hebephrenia is a subtype of schizophrenia, although it is not recognized in the latest version of the DSM (it's called "Disorganized Schizophrenia", instead). Inappropriate facial responses may be common, and behavior is sometimes described as 'silly,' such as inappropriate laughter.

My autistic daughter has a paradoxical response to pain, especially sudden pain such as falling down. It makes her laugh. She also finds during a migraine that she has no anxiety, and sometimes even has mild elation.

Which is not to say that she isn't hurt. It just tends to elicit these "inappropriate" responses.

I tend to laugh at things in my head that nobody else sees.

I look nutso when I do that!

I used to do that a lot too, and I've seen it in another seemingly autistic person. It's like an internal comedy machine. The other thing is that I don't believe laughter to be exclusively a reaction to the absurd, I think it's also a way of discharging tension, in fact that seems more likely to be its evolutionary root. I've not really been cured of "inappropriate" laughter, it's just that I don't seem to find the world as funny as I used to. For some reason I still tend to laugh when I notice somebody unsuccessfully trying to deceive people. I guess that could be a form of schadenfreude, but I don't generally enjoy witnessing other people's misfortunes.

There's always a lot going on inside my brain, and some of it is funny, so yes I laugh randomly at times!

I also laugh or smile inappropriately for the context, because I don't know how to make any other facial expressions. So when I talk about being raped, I tend to smile or laugh, as if the whole concept is ridiculous, rather than traumatizing. But I honestly don't know how to pout (it feels so fake when I try?) - so I just smile at everything.
