why are some online gamers so rude

I played a game of online Scrabble this afternoon (one of many games) and I had llucky tiles and was winning. Then my (evidently female judging by user name) resigned from the game halfway and sent the remark to me "put it up your ass."
Is she just a bad loser? I don't really like losing wither but I don't insult people about it when I''m losing.
Is this is a general trend during live play games? It's not the first time either. Most of the people (from all over the world) are friendly.

It seems to me that people use the internet as opportunities to be ridiculously negative or offensive. Based on some forums, you could think that every single person in the world detests Fire Emblem Fates, or Final Fantasy VII, or anything that I happen to like. As David Francy said, 'I don't like meatloaf, but I'm not going to go online and rant about how much I detest meatloaf'. ![]()

Yes, your experience is, sadly, not uncommon. Depending on the game, it might even be the norm. League of Legends players are said to be among the worst.
I've even had something similar when playing Yahoo Chess a long time ago. It offers the ability to take back a move if the opponent agrees. So my opponent made a mistake, tried to take it back and I allowed it. Later in the game, I did the same and he refused. So I made some comment along the lines of "Come on! It was obviously a mistake and I allowed you take a move back before!" Nothing rude or anything. His response: "you want a tissue, fa***t?" Erm... OK, then!
I think the reason this happens far more online is that without seeing or hearing the other person it doesn't quite feel like you're interacting with a real person. Empathy is reduced - and most NTs are really bad at empathy to begin with. Knowing that you're not likely to ever meet them and, therefore, to suffer any consequences for your rudeness, probably contributes to this, too.

I just started playing an interactive online game for the first time. One where everyone has a character they control and can talk to each other in text by sending a message. While no one has been rude to me yet, several people have ignored me when I said something to them or asked a question.
Also once time when I was taking out 10 creatures to fulfill a deed, someone else came along and started helping me. But I wanted to do it by myself, so I had my character just sit there and stare at him. He asked if I needed help with any more of them and I just sat there and said nothing. Then he said something like "Fine then good bye" and left. I figure I must have hurt his feelings.
I think theyre trying to be funny, i just throw it back at em, i find it hilarious
on Xbox, i was playing Left 4 Dead 2, this kid yells "ZOMBIEBRIDEXD SUCKS DICK"i thought it was funny but i just responded with "The f**k did you just say little s**t?" and he signed off really quick.
I dont take the internet too seriously. people like that are entertaining though, just watch Filthy Frank.

People think being on the internet gives them the right away to be a mean person. I'm guilty of this myself, and feel ashamed of it. Games are supposed to be fun, not getting mad at other people.
This is the main reason why I really don't care for online games, and if I do play them (like Warcraft), I play by myself, no friends, just me exploring, questing and keeping to myself. I play how I want to, if others don't like it they should respect how I play.
Because I dismantle their every move provided I've muted all the channels they can whine through. I keep my gaming to a minimum because I know if I stopped coding I might become an itinerant FPSer (halo), which would be abrasive & ultimately boring.

Because they find it funny when people bite well sometimes other times their just aholes.
I recently had an interesting experience in Starcitizen.
I admit it was slightly amusing with the end result. For the last 3 weeks Starcitizen has had free flight meaning anyone can download the game and play for free *it ends monday btw* so naturally the game is absolutely full of kid and kid trolls right now.
There are alot of mature players such as myself even real pilots playing, we will be very happy when these kids that have to ask their parents to buy something have gone.
So i was in game spawning in my multicrew ship "Constellation" then hop'd on board with a couple of other dudes as crew. Hop'd in the pilots seat about to take off when all of a sudden ship blows up. Was not happy. Tried again watched as some idiot nose dived into it.
I got an idea, i became crafty. I decided i would mess with this persons head. In Starcitizen currently well whats there of the persistent universe is 4 main landing pad struts A-D, to spawn in a ship on any of the pads a small internal space station like area must be accessed where display panels can be interacted with. So i ran off and eva'd to all 4 struts spawning in ships alternating except the large one and saying in chat where will it be lol.
I could see this small ship flying around i believe he was trying to work it out, done this for about 10 mins. Finally i got tired of it and got another idea, i decided i would find out exactly what ship the kid was flying in. I decided to set a trap. Oh this was after i tried to literally hijack his ship in hopes he would fly past me whilst i was floating around in space lol. That would of been so funny.
So eventually i spawned in my large ship and i sat watching waiting through one of the large windows in the strut complex. Sure enough a small fighter flew up to it, looked about to nose dive but i think he suspected something. Couldn't quite make out what it was, i think he panicked and try to run lol. I sprinted outside on the the strut pads and found him trying to quickly land and run i announced proudly in chat "hey everyone the troll that's been nose diving into us is flying around in a P52" which is a tiny scout ship. I was satisfied that i sufficiently scared the troll and decided to call it a night.
I was going to try and grab his character name but didn't get that far lol.
So yes it does happen, trolling is a special sort of rude mostly its kids but sometimes their adult children too lol. I prefer to try and beat them at their own game because its far more satisfying when you do.

Oh, they have nothing on World of Warcraft players. Most toxic game community in any multiplayer game I've ever played. I've essentially been locked out of the high-end content because they kick me from their team every time I try to do any of it. I've sworn off high-level dungeons and raids completely, only raids I've ever completed were ones I could solo.
The makers of League of Legends at least have been trying to clean up their community. The makers of World of Warcraft don't seem to give a damn about it.

Hey nice to know about Leauge. Yeah WOW is kinda dieing anyway has been for ages, blizzard has been losing players. They can only milk it so much, Diablo 3 is a much better community practically no trolling at all much more mature. My friend plays has done since LOD on D2.

I love playing online games, but hate parties cos the majority of parties I've been in contain idiots (with the exception of some parties in Rose Online, where I met alot of decent people), so I end up soloing - I prefer that as I just like to explore. If I'm being forced into parties due to quests (eg. ffxiv) , I ignore everyone else, and pretend my headset's not working. I'm not the most social of people.
^*spends ten seconds staring at your avatar and location
* Anyway, I don't play online much, since most of my games are solo, so...

I'm not sure who your avatar is but he looks like he can stand up tall for himself although he's a bit on the small side!
People usually pick their avatars for a reason...
Anyhow my friend says people don't like losing, as if I chose my lucky tiles myself! They get generated randomly so it can work both ways and is a game where a combination of luck and skill are needed to win. She was losing heavily so took it out on me.

Yep not many people can deal with it lol. The fact is instead of getting angry if you try to learn from it that's how you beat others which most of tbh are average at best. Study tactics and strategys. My friend was semi pro but his team sucked, he often complained they woudn't even try to use teamplay and strategy's he tried to get people into training people often didn't show or stuffed around.
I colead a clan in Starcitizen, got no time for people like that in my clan lol they get kicked if they dont play properly cause we want to be a great clan.
