I've had anxiety for 4 years, I've tried various things to help me:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT), Mindfulness, Metacognitive Therapy (MCT), Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR),Looked into my Diet ...

Meds:
Citalopram (Celexa)- Turned me into a zombie
Atenolol - Did nothing
Fluoxetine (Prozac) - Did nothing
Mirtazapine (currently taking) - improved energy/mood, (anxiety - not quite sure if it's having an effect)

I know that some medical conditions can be known to cause anxiety (Diabetes, thyroid ...etc). My logic tells that I'm probably just being a hypochondriac and I don't want to waste the doctors time by asking for a blood test. I guess it's also my aspie/logical side that strives to find a solution to my anxiety problems by asking for one.

So, has anyone actually got ride of their anxiety by being diagnosed with a medical condition?

I know of someone who had blood work done to see if was a thyroid problem. But you should have yearly blood test labs done anyways as part of yearly psychical.

Im having ongoing blood tests being done to rule out a hormonal role in my anxiety, i also have excessive facial hair.

I probably should. Corporate jobs just keep building on it, that's in large part why I resolved to spend this year with friends as much as I can. They're gonna jam me full of needles...

Lexapro is labeled for controlling both General Anxiety disorder and depression. It has few side effects than Celexa. Really expensive years ago, which is why it may not have been prescribed, even though it may have been a more appropriate medication for your needs.

You could try Buspar. It's specifically for anxiety instead of being an antidepressant & it's not a sedative like benzodiazepines. It helped my anxiety alot without side-effects & it can be taken with other psych meds.

@EzraS Here in the UK we don't have yearly physicals. We have "free" healthcare via the national health service (NHS), well everyone pays for it through their taxes. You only really go to the doctor when your sick.

@ZombieBrideXD Hope everything goes ok for you

@BTDT@nick007 As stated above we don't really pay for healthcare, I could in theory ask for any drug I guess. Thanks for the suggestions. I normally just let the doctor decide what drugs they put me on. I don't know If I would seem like a smart a**e by requesting specific drugs.

I'm nearly 45 years old and the last time I had a needle stuck in me was over 35 years ago. There could be all kinds of weird and wonderful things going on in my body but I'd much rather not know.

In the states there are a ton of commercials on the television for patented drugs, presumably to get patients to ask for them.

A good doctor will listen to your reasoning. Asking for meds is how I got on Buspar for my anxiety, Neurontin for my OCD & Singuliar & Xyzal for allergies & sinus problems. I had much better luck researching meds & asking for them than just letting the doctors play a guessing game with medication.
