Going on SSDI: Pros and Cons
Page 1 of 1 [ 3 posts ]
I wrote out a big post with all my history and everything, but it took me too long and it didn't post. Oh well, it probably wasn't necessary. Anyway, I'm in my mid-twenties and have hit a point in my life where I feel like I'm treading water with all my mental health stuff. I'm pretty sure I can sustain working very part time, but I'm not sure beyond that. Full time has been very stressful. I know it takes a long time to qualify, but other than that I'm not sure of the cons.

If you have recently been employed, SSDI is going to wonder why you can no longer be employed. Can you show a pattern of failure?
One con of SSDI is that it's sort of a certification of how non-functional you are. This can be pretty depressing.

I agree with this as I am on SSI/SSDI but if you just get social security temporarily and work towards a goal that will make you employable than go for it. For me I am going to college this fall and possibly this summer, hang in there OP. I relate to your post and hope you can find a way to get through this stressful time.
Also if you do get on disability, get a hobby and try to stay semi active, its all to easy to isolate on disability.
