I loved drawing when I was a kid. Most of my drawings weren't meant to be private, but some of them were. I kept them private by destroying them after I looked at them. Unfortunately people have taken my drawings away before I had a chance to destroy them. Do you think they had a right to do that?

I've never understood why some people insist on throwing away their works of art...anytime I've protested about someone trying to throw away a picture they do cover it up and claim its bad and they'll just throw it away and start over/draw something different.
But isn't it kind of a waste to put all the work into drawing a picture? Especially if you color it all in and what not if you're just going to look at it one time when you're done and throw it away? And what is the purpose of keeping it private anyways is it embarrassment/fear of what people will think of the drawing? Or the pleasure of no one but you ever gets to get a good look at it...to me it still seems like wasted effort but perhaps that means more to some people than me.

The private drawings aren't high effort drawings. They were just drawings that were helping me visualize my special interests. Since I'm pretty embarrassed about how obsessive I get I preferred to hide my drawings.

Sketches for me are an alternative to a written diary, and like you said above, usually not high effort drawings, more so one method I use to understand/record something.

I drew constantly as a kid and considered many of my drawings private. Probably because I was embarrassed about things I'd drawn. Nothing bad, but usually thoughts about things, like feelings about being excluded or bullied. Or drawings that I was worried weren't good enough.
I've thrown away a lot of art. Mostly because it doesn't meet my high standards.

Same with me. They were pretty much a diary, but no one treated them like one. Written diaries have never worked for me.
