I am curious if there are any other parents on this forum that don't have any kids on the autism spectrum.

None of mine are but my son might have ADHD, my husband thinks he does and so does my mother and I am thinking so too. But he has problems in school like his stubbornness holds him back and he is hyper active and has social issues at school and his language is still considered delayed even though he is talking well and can ask questions but he still gets his moments where he shrieks or whines and yells for attention and he was a little delayed in development as a baby and very quiet but he did cry and that was it and he has a hard time with transitions. I got a evaluation report back from the school district and I read it and it felt like I was reading about someone's else's child because my son is a totally different person at school. But that is it. I wanted to see if I am the only one here without any ASD kids because it seems like every ASD person out there has a child on the autism spectrum somewhere. But ADHD runs in our family. My side and husband's side. My dad has it as does one of my cousins and I have a cousin on my dad's side who has ADD and my nephew on my husband's side has it, I was diagnosed as having ADD as a kid but pills I took for it weren't the right ones and treatment I got for it didn't work either and ADHD had been suspected for me but I was never diagnosed with it and my mom says I don't have ADHD.

It seems to me that 99% of Aspie parents here seem to have at least one Aspie/Autistic child.

I want a child, but I'm scared it might be on the spectrum. :(

That sounds like autism, to me, but if your not married to a Autistic person the rates are somewhere between 33.3% and 50% and a Autistic Couple should be like 66.7% to 75%, so Most likely you should have at least 1 ASD child if you have three.

My boyfriend is NT and he knows all his family are NTs with no mental health issues or disabilities at all (including all 3 of his kids), so hopefully if he has a baby with me my baby will get the genes from his side, which means be NT.

Although all 3 of his kids seem to take after their mum, because she's outgoing and extraverted and so are all 3 kids, while my boyfriend is the shy type.

My son has autism and a moderate global learning disability, I am ADD/ASD high-function - We can trace ASD/ADD traits back on my side of the family for 4 generations.

Also my Sister-in-Law has a son who exhibits ASD traits but my wife doesn't...

Remember over lap between ADHD and autism.

Haven't you questioned your own autism? If you are indeed misdiagnosed, then you don't have to worry about having a kid with it.

Half of me feels I was misdiagnosed, but then when I read about GIRLS and AS, I have second thoughts. But I'm going to talk to a specialist about it.

Good, good. Let us all know how it goes and what the specialist said. I would like to hear an update on that when you go and hear his opinion.

If I recall correctly, you were diagnosed by your school right and no specialist?

My child has some autistic traits, but nothing major. Many people in my family do.

Are any of them on the spectrum including your child?

I have a suspicion that one of my elderly relatives is autistic, and possibly one who passed away a few years ago. Besides me, I think those are the only two.

I do not believe my child would have enough traits to be considered to have autism. The traits are also quite mild compared to mine.

To be honest I can't remember who diagnosed me. I could ask my mum.
