I definitely find that my jacket and shoulder pad help. Frankly, even if it is a placebo effect - as it feels as though it's working I'm willing to stick with it.
My SIL says that there's a place weighted blankets can be hired from for £5 a week, but it's called Kids Club (so I'm doubtful they'd have the weight I'm after) and I haven't been able to find it online.
There's also a hire service at SensoryDirect which is £29 plus postage (youch) for two weeks, with £10 per week extensions but if you buy a blanket they subtract the hire cost from the blanket cost.
I'm thinking that I will hire the heaviest blanket and then remove some weights* to see if I find it more or less effective. Obviously not scientific method since I'll know, but suitable for comfort.
*Their adjustable blanket which allows you to add and remove weights is slightly more expensive than their classic one, but it's also the size of a full single cover. Their only other single size has balls in for tactile fiddling and is even more expensive.
