Sensory Profiles of Adults with Autism: A comparison study between males and females

Are you:
Aged 18 years or older?
Diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition?

If so, you are invited to take part in this study which is investigating sensory profiles of adults with autism, and in particular looking at how these might differ for men and women. The study will also look at whether other factors (e.g., age, education, services received) are linked with particular sensory sensitivities.

The study involves completing an online questionnaire called the Adult/Adolescent Sensory Profile tool, followed by some demographic questions. It should take no more than 15 minutes in total to complete. We will be happy to provide a summary of the overall results from the study when it is finished. You do not need to give your name.

Thank you for your time!
(I hope it is okay to post this on the forum, and that I have done so in the correct place. If not, please do let me know and I will take it down or move to another topic. Thank you.)

I find this study could lead to useful findings--especially those that pertain to differences between males and females with autism.

Maybe this will lead to more understanding as to, especially, autism amongst females, who are probably greatly underdiagnosed.

Usually, for actual permission, one should email a Personal Message to WP's creator and day-to-day CEO, Alex.

Ace22,

Do you have permission from the owner of this website to solicit its members for participation in your study?

Hi there,

Appreciate your responses. Apologies, no i haven't contacted the CEO for permission to post this. Having read the terms and conditions/rules i was unwaware i needed to do that. As stated at the bottom of my post, i am more than happy to remove the post if necessary, if this is not appropriate for the forum. I will message Alex now.

Sorry again,
Abbie

kraftiekortie,

Thanks for your positive comments, i hope so to! I worked very closely with a young lady with autism and a severe IDD for two years before i began my study, and found her sensory processing to be very different to the others in the group who were all male, this is what inspired me to choose this as my research topic. Apologies again for not seeking prior permission to do this but i will rectify that now.

Abbie

The questions regarding education that give options including the term "sixth", I have no idea what that means in this context. There is no explanation given either.

I wish in the treatment section I could have given notes about which treatments helped, which did nothing and which made things worse.

Hi, thank you for your comments.

Noca, i'm sorry about that. The term 'sixth form' is a British term for an educational unit/college, for teens between 16years and 18years, and is usually in a school setting. When designing this survey i should of recognised that this is not a universal term, so apologies for providing no explanations with it.

Ettina, i appreciate your comment. If i wasn't working to a deadline on this research i would of really liked to of explored the demographic factors more deeply, however time constraints mean i am unable to do this.

I will bear both your comments in mind for any future research i may do!

Thanks again,
Abbie

It might be better to seek responses somewhere else, especially if you are trying to meet a deadline date, as permission to conduct surveys on Wrong Planet is rarely given. There are many requests lately so these may not be responded to at all. WP is primarily a support and discussion site.
