Does anyone else here want to run almost totally on pure logic? And not involve emotions in their thought processes? I want to delete most of my emotions as they get in the way of logical thinking.

Yes, I do. Emotion causes so many unnecessary detours and digressions.

Deleting all my emotions would leave me (or anyone) so profoundly impaired in daily activities that as much as they frustrate me, I'd rather keep them around. Could do with better ability to manage them, however.

Emotions are the color to the canvas, the reason for reasons. Emotions are quite important to memory as well.

Ok, I'll change my mind: I'd rather have few emotions, and I'd rather them not to be strong.

Well, for those of us in the world in a relationship with that special someone, emotions are quiet important :3

I think they're fine the way they are, although some minor tweaking would be good.

Emotional biases can lead us to making poor decisions but it seems to me that a lot of my motivation comes from emotion. I can't know this for sure but I believe that if we were 100% emotionless we would also be lacking motivation to do anything and that would be even more crippling.

Research has confirmed all of the above to various degrees.

In Star Trek, the Vulcan's don't lack emotions. They simply recognize the potential harm of being ruled by emotion, and teach their kids from their earliest years to control and suppress emotion, accenting logical thinking and striving to let logic rule in place of emotion.

Anyone who ever saw Spock's Vulcan father and human mother together could tell that despite the formality and near stiffness dictated by Vulcan custom, the father was very much in love with the mother...even if the only public display involved looking at each other while slightly touching the index and second fingers to those of one's mate.

No... I'm not a Trek fan. Why do you ask? ;)

No, emotions are direct and concrete part of my thoughts...I can't explain this very well but if I'm thinking about emotions then the emotions are a concrete part of the thoughts just like remembered images are a concrete part of my thoughts. I can't even imagine not having them or changing my ability to feel them.

I think Spock appeals to a lot of aspies. I know I did and I guess still do find that type of pragmatism appealing. But I wouldn't say I want to have no emotions, but rather to not let them get the better of me. I think it really boils down to desiring to have a disciplined mindset. To be cool clam collected and on top of things. And to be able to dismiss things that aren't essential, practical or logical. To be able to let those things roll off you like water rolls off a duck's back. Any character who was an outsider, but had the ability to maintain a sense of complete discipline and composure were the ones I was the most drawn to as a child.

Cain in the TV show Kung Fu was another one of these. Kung Fu is a good show to watch as pretty much every episode is about a person who is viewed by everyone around him as an outcast, who treat him poorly and how he always deals with this in a clam disciplined graceful manner. He never loses his cool

Keep in mind that, at times, it is entirely logical to be emotional.

I'm a very logical person. It's not that I don't have emotions, but I have them in a kind of separated folder. They don't interfere with my rational thought unless I let them to, something that I use to do sometimes, though this is a completely conscious act where I'm perfectly aware of how emotions and feelings vary the choice I make. I feel quite identified with those scifi vulcan-like type of characters.

It's not that I have decided to be like this. I'm just like this, I have always been.

But having emotions is a wonderful thing. It's an amazing part of life that doesn't deserve to be let apart. They make you feel hurt and happy, and so alive. Don't forget you're a human mind in a human body. Love is a part of how our firmware is designed.

Shouting is depicted by... WRITING IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

However, since it bothers you, I'll switch back to a regular faunt... Happy?

Did you complain to the person who writes here in purple faunts as well?
