1)...The Question?

"Has you computer ever did something
that was badly timed and caused much
annoyance and grief to you life?"

2)...The Statement from Ghosthunter

To start with my day has been a emotional
rollercoaster. Then my primary CD Powerbook
decides to die, as well as the internal CD.
This only leaves me with my External CDRW
as a saragot CD, and also my spare PBG3
that is in better shape. These of course going
with me regardless in my later journeys for
a better me.

The complete systems were under $600 in
a period of a year and a half of piecing it
together from the flea market.

Here is the computer's requim.

Once there was a fleamarket find. $160 for
a PowerbookG3 Wallstreet with a iffy sound
card, iffy harddrive, and only a dead battery
and a zip module that still works to this day.

This little abuse Powerbook was badly scratched
up by prior abusers, and a crack in it's hinge
area that cause much autistic wobbly in table
movements like one in a P.E class with
little coordination.

A loving soul see's that the hard drive, casing
was flawed like he and loving embraced it as
kindered, abused soul. He bought a replacement
parts unit and gave it a warranty by getting it's
192mb of ram upped, a 10gig hard drive, and
a CD-Rom module and better sound card, and
thus a swan. She endured my many maddening
and dangerous OS experiments, Download
experiments and has alway recovered.

Then one day I find a almost perfect, and with
a clasp to close it specimen that has the same
192mb factory installed ram, 4gig hard drive
to replace it when this swan must do it's final
swan dive.

That is today. I am now in the process of waiting
to get the more important things in my life
completed before I start a journey for my
betterment. Death and it's infinite change has
reared it's face in more than one thing to
prepare it's change and the swan died. But
not in vain. She has inspired a CDRW external,
512mb ram upgrade for the better unit, 10gig
for the better unit, and the better unit is destined
for a DVD-Module. So in her deaths wake,
change in my life and things that must pass
have and are coming my way so I can be a
better me in more ways than one.

A Poem wrote:
Ode to a battered one. She lay in the wake.
unadoring eye's saw the hand of many
sparrows that pecked up her. Crying,
but not alone came eye of sky and clarity.
Seeing sage saw beauty in her and said
I will help you.

Many journey's will pass the ebbing moons.
The suns rays that lead to autims death
and life from decay will pass to inspire it.
and springs new leaves will remove it.
so the sun and it's celebration of life can
inspire the other.

3)...The Question Repeated!

"Has you computer ever did something
that was badly timed and caused much
annoyance and grief to you life?"

In my sophomore year of high school, I often had to go type up english assignements in my schools upstairs mac lab, which was populated with old mac SE machines running system 7.1.

The rest of the class would be in the room too, and each time, at least one person got a dreaded "System Error" message with out saving their work.

Yes. Computers and electronic devices have caused alot of greif.. even if you back up... it's still not 100% reliable.

computers - pah!

never trusted them, never will. i don't seem to have the fascination with pooters which most aspies have, i'm afraid, but then i grew up before they existed amongst the common people, as it were.

as for back-ups... floppies, CDs, memory stick... and EVERYTHING possible is printed out, too.

i also email vital stuff to other people.

Heh, the story of my life, Ghosthunter.

I do a lot of work on the computer, both writing and art, so something will inevitably fail at the wrong time, because the wrong time is basically any time. I had a computer awhile back which I called "Hal" due to its constant betrayal and refusal to work. Since then, I am paranoid about backing things up, I have atleast 20-30 CDs with work on them strewn about my desk, most of which I have no idea what is on them, and probably there is a lot of repeat stuff, too.

Generally, computers don't fail on me. But I can remember one time that left me in seething rage.

I had created a hanger for my spaceships in CAD, quite large and quite detailed. After saving it, I exported it to 3ds max and I started texturizing it. This took me about 3 days to finish. After I finished, I set it to do a test render and when I came back the program had crashed and the file was corrupted, ruining all my work.   ! !! !!

I was so angry I did not even try to redo all the textures. . . .arghh.

Sometimes I forget to save my CAD drawings but this is minor cause a day of work is not very difficult to catch up with. . . .I already have worked out all the dimensions so it only takes 1/3 the time to recreate in CAD, but texturizing is a pain in the a**.

I wanted to use the hanger for a cool animation, but I only have the starting snippet now. . .oh well.

Everyday with no warning.

Computer just shuts off (And I mean OFF) un announced and when you hit the power button, won't go back on. So I have to get up and keep unplugging the computer and plugging it back in for several minutes at a time in order for it to turn back on. Get back to work, few minutes later shuts off again.

I've lost LOTS of work because of this damn thing.

I have a 120GB USB External Hard Drive with pretty much most of my computer's content loaded on it.

sounds like you're overheating. . . .I suggest cleaning out your filters and grab one of those "cans" of air to blast out the dust inside the computer case. . .try that and tell us if it works

Oh, you poor people :) My first exposure to computers was at an NSF summer camp in 1965. Try punch cards! Type each line on a card and carry your program in a box of them. Wait two days to see if it runs.
Breathe an hour in a room full of enough floating chads to help Gore win Florida ten times over.

Be happy it is 2005, friends!!

It's not my computer that causes me problems, it's MY HUSBAND when he isn't patient enough to figure out why the machine isn't doing what he thinks it should! At least 4 times in the last 2 years he decided to "wipe it all out and reinstall" because something wasn't working right. WITHOUT telling me and allowing me time to back up my files. Or insisting he DID back up everything - only to discover after the fact that he did NOT. :x Grrrrrr....

MY computer! No touchie!
He has his own (laptop). Not my fault if he leaves it at work. I LIKE my computer the way it works (or doesn't work...)

Was fairly angry today when I discovered ImageShack woulnd't take .bmp, so that I had to go and download a conversion program that converts the .bmp's to .jpg's.

But I am all good now.
