I've had the sheer bad luck to end up near their school, but a children's park. And, somehow, regardless of whether they're tortured they often sound like that is what's happening... I'm now in interminable darkness because I needed to find something to at least block this hell a bit, but piercing screams still cut through like glass on a whiteboard...

Hi, I actually live opposite a first school. The schools front gates are literally opposite my front door from across the road (and it's a small narrow road). It's hectic during the start and the end of school, especially break and lunch times! Screaming kids and cars pilling up outside your house for five days a week. :x

I also have neighbours either side who are very loud. The one side of next door neighbours have two young children with very shouty parents. Their little boy would constantly kick his football against our garden fence (which he broke ). The other side don't have any young kids but they love doing their own D.I.Y building work and playing loud music, loud tv, have parties all from the morning to the evening.

My family are trying to move house now (thank god). But it's taking a lot of time due to needing to redecorate and making repairs.

I have to put my earphones in and block out all the sounds with my music when it gets too much. I also go for walks outside away from my house to get away from the sounds.

So I feel like pulling out my own hair at times  especially living like this for 21 years!

Good luck anyways, at least you haven't got a school right opposite your house

Hucy: you must come from an exotic country.

I've never heard the term "first school" before.

Usually, it's something like "elementary school" or "grammar school" or "kindergarten" or "nursery school," or "infant school."

I live next door to a primary school, which is children aged 4-11. It doesn't worry me though. I like hearing the children playing in the playground. It's the right place.

What I hate is toddlers screaming in shops, as in temper tantrums or meltdowns.

I can’t. Just thinking about it gives me anxiety. If I’m out in public and there are loud children around, I run away. If I don’t I’m likely to have a meltdown and get into a fight with the parent for not smacking the horrid sound out of their child. I doubt I’ll ever be capable of handling the sound of children.

We had the approximately same system in rural Denmark until early 60és.

I know it sounds horrible, but I can't stand children's voices most of the time. Their voices are so high-pitched, even talking will usually make me cringe, although I feel the same reaction to adults highly/loudly laughing and cackling. It's the worst in an echoing area; I've noticed public bathrooms are the worst. I did hear some kid's mom (a few years ago) tell him he was hurting people's ears once while talking loudly in one!
