Yes,yes again with the questions am i. BUT this time I am wondering about my 3 year old sister. So,without further adu here we go:She started saying little things(mama dada ect) at 6 months then it suddenly stopped and did not return until about 2 and a half. She has more eye contact issues than i do.(She will scream and throw herself on the floor or try to beat the tar out of you if you try to get her to look at you.)When she FINALLY started crawling(nearly 1)she always went BACKWARDS. She never crawled forwards. She just progressed to walking soon after. She walks constantly on tiptoe and will cry and scream if you tell her to walk "right". Eventually she runs, shrieking, away(still on tiptoe). She is NOT potty trained. She REFUSES. She will scream bloody murder if you put her on the toilet.Instead she takes off the pullup(glorified DIAPERS in my honest opinion)hides it and retrives another one. If you ask her why she wont use the pot she simple repeats your question in tears.BUT she knows everything else. Her latest question was"How big is my brain?"(She speaks very well now btw). She seems to be hyperactive(runing around screaming, jumping off things, spinning on the floor, ect.)She flaps her hands more than I do(which is a LOT).She rocks more than i do and headbangs. She has near constant tantrums about EVERYTHING(her sock came off and she screamed for over AN HOUR)! !!Ugh,thats all i can think of right now but im sure theres more...

I thought of more! When she talks shes either monotone or......singing it seems. She doesnt play with the other kids....she BITES them if they come near and tells them shes gonna kill them(I did that too...the biting part anyway). She mixes up i and you(i USED to do that now i just occasionally refer to my self in the 3rd person).Shes almost as much of a klutz as i am(not a day goes by without us running into a wall or each other or tripping and falling down).Shes obsessed with bugs and death(Yeah, shes 3 and talking about suicide and murder and "what happens when you get too old?")

She sounds adorable :)

In any case if these things are pretty much constant then yeah thats not a tough one to say 90%+ chance shes on the spectrum.

Hmm...

for the eye contact and the crawling bit then yes, i dont this myself and including the tip toe, infact i still tip toe too this very day.

As for the hyperactive bit, typical 3 year old girl behavior, my 3 year old sister is the exact same.

YEP, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! She is somewhere on the spectrum. It sounds like she is maybe HFA. She COULD have AS, especially with the current guidelines. Saying words at 6Months was just about RIGHT ON THE MARK! The regression or mute period happens sometimes. On the bright side, she knows she is different, is curious, etc... And she has a mother with a little bit of experience, and a sister(you 8-)) that might help her out and nudge her along. Who knows? In a couple years, she could be acting closer to the way you did.

BTW as far as being potty trained, it sounds like she is simply STUBBORN, and doesn't want to do it, or has some lack of control. The concern, desire, embarassment, and recognition is THERE! That is a GOOD sign! She may improve greatly in even a month or less!

Steve

Yes cookies are indeed the solution to global warming, heartache, terrorism and the key to world peace.

Sometimes, but i try not to. I usually tell ppl i hit my hand or something.I did something similar to that, yes. I would alternate between YOU and SHE. As in "YOU/SHE wants that."

The two are basically interchangable. AS and HFA generally mean the same thing.

I kind of meant autism because of the speech delay thing, but she could be more HFA. I'm no expert.

If she hides her diaper, that shows an understanding of state of mind. An autistic kid would not think to hide the diaper. Giver her some time.

You know, I do quite a bit of research about AS through Wikipedia, among other sites and I have learned so much about the classic symptoms along with the potential quirks such as social phobia, poor deception, and offensive behavior to criticism.

I don't know if shes hiding it so much as copying what we do with it. She leaves them in various trash cans.We just have issues finding them. All we know is there is a smell and shes not wearing it.
