What do people mean when they say people with autism 'live in the moment'? I think I kind of get it, but then they also talk about anxiety seeming to be an inherent part of ASD, that people with it are very good worriers, which can obviously involve anxious thoughts about the past, present and future.

I'm a bit confused, can anyone help?

For me I get very easily distracted by lights and sounds. It will stop me (or conversations) and I get transfixed on the stimuli until they tell me to come back to earth or whatever. That is the only thing I can think of.

I think to me it is perhaps mostly my near constant tendency to 'lose myself' in 'my own little world', my ability to become so absorbed in something and the way I experience the world around me so intensely. I am also extremely good worrying and getting incredibly anxious about things though :(

For me it's about doing things right now and not planning for the future. Everything is literally about *this* moment....Except when I'm looping.

Here is an example:
90-93. Made almost a quarter of a million dollars....pissed away because I did not think or plan for the future. Any sort of planning at this stage would have set me up for life. That was a golden time to make and invest money.

2005-2008. Made about 55-70K a year. Had three months off. Worked my ass off though. Pissed away for the same reasons......

I am 55. No retirement. No savings. Living week to week.....
