I've been wondering that too actually - exactly the same thing!
My brain tends to think about supposedly pretty irrelevant things at times and whenever I saw a blind character in a TV show, a documentary or in real life, I began to wonder how their "off-screen life" works. Obviously, I never dared to ask someone personally either. I always considered that a breach of their private life and as potentially insulting. I also never saw a documentary cover that touchy subject.
While I'm at touchy... Well, not only the touch sense is more intense when people lose their ability to see or never had the ability to see. The hearing and the smelling is intensified as well. I doubt they can make anything out through hearing, so what remains is smelling. I would figure it might be a combination of how it feels and, well... You get the idea.
But yeah, I would actually be curious if anyone (who is blind) will even answer that question.
