RBF is real...so say new studies.....
They now say that Resting b***h Face is real. It's an interesting article.
I know most of you have heard about being told you look angry, what's wrong and a whole other list of things.

This poorly coded software cannot read your mind. The programmer’s interpretation of what blank stare means does not have anything to do with people’s real emotions. Poor software coding does not make anyone a b***h. It just makes poor programmers.

I don't think that the software detecting emotions in a neutral face means that the person is actually feeling those emotions, but I believe it's probably picking up on something that can be perceived by others.
I know resting b***h face is real, because I have it. I've been told to smile since childhood. People think I'm angry, miserable, or sad when I'm feeling just fine. No underlying negative emotions, just a neutral face that looks unhappy. So I do believe that there is something to this.
Does this go for men too, or is this just another way to put women down? I guess for men it should be called Resting Bastard Face.

That’s my point exactly. You are fine, no underlying negative emotions. Me too.
Would you not tell the software programmer to go back to the drawing board then? Sorry I’m fine your software is flawed.

Did you read the article? As for it being applied, I think a lot of us have this. I see just as many men as women that get the same complaints as what YiGeRen described.
I think women just get it more because of the social idiocy that still thinks that women should be pretty even while running a CEO style work performance.
But, men get it too.
I know I do. As soon as I start to think of a problem LOL Which is kinda my bread and butter LOL

I think I would just decide that expressions that typically are read as one way are not necessarily indicative of an underlying emotion. So the software could be detecting something that usually correlates to a specific emotion. Chances are that many people will read the face as displaying a specific emotion, regardless of whether or not it's there.
So I think the major flaw is that the software developers are interpreting the findings as being indicative of true underlying emotions, rather than just unusual neutral facial expressions. They think that there's some kind of psychology that causes people to display hidden or unconscious emotions, while I think that it only indicates facial expressions that are misleading because they resemble negative emotional expressions.

I just did. Where are the men? I think it's another thing for men to use against women just like the PMS. I usually get the kind of face they are talking about when men do or say stupid stuff. I didn't see that mentioned as a reason to have it in the article though.

Exactly. Thank you.

I never doubted the existence of faces with a negative impression on others in the first place actually...
Some people were just born with tired looking eyes. Some people have inwardly tilted eyebrows that make them look angrier. Certain proportions are commonly associated with emotional expressions. Do you randomly happen to be born with a combination of those that are associated with being angry, then you have it.
Wrinkles are not an exception either and wrinkles are partially also shaped by the expressions you pull off in life and partially just genetic (at least that was addressed in the article), something which I'm sure people pick up on automatically. Certain wrinkles are associated with certain emotions, if they show up in a certain combination, they affect the way the person is perceived.
Not much one can do about that - unless perhaps surgery or making a happy face and getting some botox. ![]()
For me, I got "are you sad?" comments a lot in my life, I do have tired looking eyes, I don't smile a lot, and my eyebrows are quite "flat" (as in not really curved upwards or anything). Things that are commonly associated with a sad or blank expression. I also don't pull many expressions at all, meaning it remains that way most of the time, so they take that as a hint of "sadness" too.
People usually pick that up as making a face "because of an emotion", because people nearly always scan and try to identify bodylanguage, the face is no exception. I don't see why they actually had to do any research on that for that matter. I thought it was obvious enough. ![]()
I consider it to be partially random and partially influenced by experiences made in life, but you surely can't tell any true, underlying emotions there or conclude that people made bad experiences because they have the face they have.
Yigeren said it well enough. It sounds like a clear case of overinterpretation to me.
PS: I also think it's "more commonly found in women" because there are expectations of seeing the female part of society as emotional, cheery, smiling, and the like. ![]()

In a way, the study is to show that it is a real thing that is there. That people should not be stigmatizing women for that.
Not everything is against women. The term existed long before the studies.
Then it was derogatory. Now there is science that says it is something that is real and should be overlooked.

Watch what you say in this thread because all I said was the "b" word a couple times about a show I just watched and got a "banned" message - then it went away.

Ohhhh...yeah...I gotcha. But, the social stigma (you are correct about that) was around for a while. At least there is some study that shows it's real. On a selfish note, I get to benefit from it. So tired of getting told to smile or that I'm angry.
I got banned for a week at a hobby forum because I said that Liam Neeson was 'Badass' enough to take on the role.
When I got back on and publicly asked. I was ticked because I got no notifications. When I did find out, I pointed out the irony of the movie "Kickass" was a topic of discussion and a major movie with the title all over the TV.
go figure.......

Well, I actually said the "b" word thinking the site would put the usual *'s in, but then a big red "X" came up saying I was banned (which I'm sure that some people would be happy about, but the Trumpsters need me
