We had him evaluated at a children's neurology center in Florida and they diagnosed him f84.0-12. Has anybody in the states had clinicians use ICD for their diagnosis instead of DSM? I know many professionals loathe the DSM.

I looked up the diagnostic code in the ICD Green Book and I'm confused by it because:

F84.0 = Childhood Autism

F84.1[*] = Atypical Autism, where:
F84.10 = Atypicality in age of onset;
F84.12 = Atypicality in symptomatology;
F84.13 = Atypicality in both age of onset and symptomatology

I don't understand why the "12" is there, if he's diagnosed with Childhood Autism. If he's diagnosed with Atypical autism, then I don't understand why the code is not F84.12.
