I just wanted to write a quick post to encourage anyone feeling down with diagnosis.
I understand that friendship can feel extra challenging for those with autism diagnosis. I have found I have actively gravitated to friends on the spectrum. And have close friends with Dyspraxia, Aspergers, ADHD and other ND diagnoses. I even checked out if I was myself as my life seems so full of people on the spectrum.
Loving people for their uniqueness and quirks has really enriched my life and I truly value, straight forward thought, kindness, lack of deception, extra sensitivity, attention to detail and careful creativity. All of which can be associated with ND traits. Some of my friends value few friends and keep their close very close, which again I think is incredible in a culture always pushing extroversion, partying and the numbers game in friendship. Few close, honest friends can be so much more valuable. My good friends have helped me move away from a negative overwhelm of people to a much higher quality few.
Good therapists and medical professionals have to be sought out at times by all progressive human beings and have certainly helped me work out what I value in human relationships.
To anyone feeling down, please don't forget that you are a wonderful human being with much to teach the world.
